Job Summary

The Director Regulatory Affairs & Legal leads regulatory affairs activities and provides legal support on regulatory, legislative, and policy matters. This role is responsible for managing regulatory filings, supporting rate case activities, monitoring regulatory developments, and providing counsel to business leaders on compliance and regulatory risks.

The Director partners with internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and external counsel to support regulatory outcomes that align with business, operational, and customer objectives. This position leads a team responsible for regulatory and legal activities and contributes to the development and execution of regulatory strategies.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the development and execution of regulatory initiatives that support corporate, financial, operational, and customer objectives.
  • Manage regulatory filings, rate case activities, cost recovery mechanisms, and settlement support efforts.
  • Provide legal guidance and counsel on regulatory, legislative, and policy matters.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory commissions, regulatory staff, industry groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate regulatory, legislative, and policy developments and communicate business impacts to leadership.
  • Oversee preparation of regulatory filings, testimony, interrogatory responses, legal memoranda, and related materials.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Lead, coach, and develop regulatory affairs and legal professionals.
  • Support business initiatives and infrastructure investments through effective regulatory planning and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and legal teams to identify and mitigate regulatory risks.

What We're Looking For:

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school (required).
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with the ability to obtain admission in applicable jurisdictions (required).

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in regulatory affairs, legal, public policy, or related functions.

Other Must Haves:

  • Experience in the utility, energy, or related regulated industry.
  • Experience supporting rate cases, regulatory filings, or compliance programs.
  • Background in government affairs, legislative processes, or public policy.
  • Experience working with external counsel and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, compliance requirements, and administrative law.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory and legal issues and translate them into business recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to balance regulatory, legal, operational, and business considerations.

Compensation Range:

$160,434.00 - $208,565.50
