About this role:

Working within Queensland Rail’s Major Projects division as the ETCS Rail Safety & Assurance Manager, you will be working as part of the Major Projects division on ETCS Alliance. Working alongside the ETCS Engineering team and Systems Assurance team, you will provide leadership on rail safety and railway operations assurance including assurance of rules, procedures, risk controls and associated change management artefacts within a multi-disciplinary and multi-party environment, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, and operationally effective.

This role is a fixed term role until March, 2027, based in Brisbane CBD. There are current funding discussions to extend this role past 2027.

You can expect your responsibilities to include:

  • Lead and effectively manage the Rail Safety and Assurance team to provide advice on all aspects of rail safety and operationsassurance and accreditation for the Cross River Rail ETCS Program
  • Lead and manage the development, implementation and adoption of all ETCS Program Rail Safety and Assurance strategies, systems, tools and procedures.
  • Manage the prioritisation, planning, resourcing and execution of all of ETCS Program Rail Safety and Assurance activities
  • Provide expert advice to the ETCS Alliance Leadership Team, Alliance Management Team and other stakeholders as required.
  • Lead, develop and implement the Rail Safety and Assurance approach to be adopted for the ETCS program through all project delivery stage gates.
  • Lead, monitor and ensure the effective compliance with QR and external Standards for all Rail Safety and Assurance activities.
  • Manage the development, production and delivery of assurance documentation required for the successful implementation, handover and maintenance of ETCS artefacts including project developed safety management system documentation, change and risk management documentation, and training materials.

What you can bring to the role:

  • Extensive knowledge of railway engineering and operations principles, standards and practices in the testing and commissioning of safety systems and equipment in a project environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of railway operations and associated policies, procedures, systems and the legislative requirements within the rail industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of railway safe working principles with the ability to work autonomously in a complex project landscape.
  • High level of leadership and management skills in delivering assurance services to achieve project specific outcomes in a complex project and stakeholder environment.
  • High level of skill in interpersonal communication, consultation and negotiation skills that build and sustain productive internal and external partnerships.
  • High level of skill in meeting statutory, regulatory and policy obligations
