Wood Frame Estimator

Location: Toronto, ON

Salary: $80000-$110000 plus benefits

Our client isa premier builder operating across Ontario, specializing in high-quality wood-frame construction for low-rise residential, multi-unit developments, and custom homes. They pride themselves on precision, structural integrity, and exceptional finishing. Due to their growing portfolio, they are seeking a detailed-oriented and highly experienced Wood Frame Estimator to join their preconstruction team.

The Role
The Estimator will take ownership of the estimating process, from initial takeoffs to final tender submission, ensuring accuracy in material, labour, and equipment costs. You will work closely with project managers, vendors, and suppliers to deliver competitive, profitable bids.

Key Responsibilities

• Quantity Takeoffs: Perform accurate, detailed material takeoffs for all wood framing components (studs, joists, trusses, sheathing) from architectural and structural drawings.
• Cost Analysis: Prepare detailed cost estimates for labour, materials, and equipment required for wood-frame projects.
• Tender Management: Oversee the bidding process, including sourcing subtrade pricing, reviewing drawings, and creating final tender submissions.
• Vendor Relations: Maintain and develop a database of reliable suppliers and subcontractors within the GTA.
• Value Engineering: Review designs to identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements without compromising structural integrity.
• Site Liaison: Work with site managers to compare estimated costs against actual construction costs.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Full Cycle Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in wood-frame estimating, specifically in the residential, low-rise, or custom home sector.
• Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of wood-frame building techniques, structural components, and Ontario Building Code requirements.
• Software Proficiency: Experience with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Procore, Autodesk, Plan swift, Bluebeam, Build XACT, or similar) and MS Excel.
• Blueprint Reading: Exceptional ability to read and interpret detailed architectural, structural, and site plans.
• Mathematical Proficiency: Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
