Job Title: Commercial Construction Estimator - School and University Projects

Location: Columbus, OH

Our client is a well-established construction firm with a strong track record in educational construction projects, focusing on delivering high-quality work for K-12 schools, colleges, and universities. Known for their commitment to excellence and project integrity, they are looking for an experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to join their Columbus, OH, team. This role will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and competitiveness of project bids for educational facilities.

The Commercial Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing cost estimates for school and university construction projects, working closely with project teams to assess budgets, project scopes, and material requirements. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and experience in estimating for educational facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for new construction, renovations, and additions for school and university projects.
• Analyze project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and RFPs, to understand the project scope and requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing and evaluate bids to select qualified partners.
• Work closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to provide cost analysis and assist in value engineering efforts.
• Develop project schedules and timelines, integrating costs with project milestones to ensure budget alignment.
• Analyze historical project data to inform estimate accuracy and ensure competitive bidding.
• Identify potential risks and discrepancies in project documents and propose solutions to mitigate impact.
• Participate in bid presentations and client meetings, providing detailed explanations of cost estimates and supporting data.
• Stay up-to-date with market trends, material costs, and labor rates, especially within the Ohio educational construction market.

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating, with a focus on school and university projects.
• Proficiency in estimating software (such as Bluebeam, Sage Estimating, or PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong understanding of Ohio building codes, ADA compliance, and other regulations specific to educational facilities.
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Proven ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders.
• Familiarity with sustainable building practices and green certifications is a plus.
