Job Description

As an Estimating Intern at Concrete Strategies, you'll step into the world of construction cost analysis and project estimation, playing a key role in ensuring accurate budgeting and financial planning for our projects. Your internship will offer hands-on experience in understanding project scope, analyzing costs, and contributing to the strategic decision-making process.

We are hiring interns for travel positions and project based as well as regionally based. We have regional offices in St. Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Seattle. Our compensation range for interns is: $20-$22/hour.

During your internship, you'll have the opportunity to learn about and contribute to:

• Project Analysis: Assist in reviewing project plans, blueprints, and specifications to understand the scope of work and project requirements.
• Cost Estimation: Learn to quantify materials, labor, equipment, and other resources required for construction projects, contributing to accurate cost estimates.
• Vendor and Supplier Communication: Engage with vendors and suppliers to gather pricing information, negotiate quotes, and assess the feasibility of potential materials and services.
• Budget Development: Work alongside experienced estimators to develop comprehensive project budgets, considering various cost factors and contingencies.
• Cost Tracking: Gain insights into tracking and analyzing project costs throughout the lifecycle, helping to identify discrepancies and maintain accurate financial records.
• Quantity Takeoffs: Learn to perform quantity takeoffs, measuring and calculating quantities of materials needed for different aspects of construction.
• Data Analysis: Assist in analyzing historical cost data and industry benchmarks to inform cost estimates and provide valuable insights for decision-making.
• Bid Preparation: Participate in the preparation of bids and proposals, helping to compile accurate and competitive bid packages.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and architects, to ensure accurate and comprehensive estimates.
• Professional Development: Engage in learning opportunities to enhance your knowledge of construction cost estimation methodologies and tools.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with construction terminology, methods, and materials.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software tools.
• Capability to analyze project plans, specifications, and data to support accurate cost estimation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with team members and stakeholders.
• Skill in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and apply problem-solving techniques to address estimation challenges.
• Ability to work well within a team, actively participating in discussions and sharing insights.
• Openness to learning new concepts and adjusting to shifting priorities inherent to construction.
