The Greenhouse Estimator will work on several projects independently, from project estimation, preliminary layout and design, and proposal generation. They will assist in maintaining good customer relationships through collaboration. They will assist in maintaining good supplier relationships, vetting new suppliers and technology. The Greenhouse Estimator will also provide coaching and training to peers on the Estimating team in effort to expand the knowledge of the department.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify, mark, takeoff and estimate products of interest to company from contract documents, including all revisions/addendums.
  • Maintain accuracy of takeoffs, estimates, and quotations of products through self-review of project specifications, material and labor items as well as the final quotation itself.
  • Collaborate on Requests for Information (RFIs), as required, with customers and/or owners to clarify specifications as part of estimating process.
  • Address customer inquiries, concerns and requests related to preliminary designs, estimates, and pricing.
  • Interact with supervisors and other departments (Engineering, Operations) on unusual products to ensure all cost factors have been accounted for and that customer schedules can be met.
  • Contact suppliers to obtain pricing for materials and review quotations for accuracy.
  • Create and maintain supplier relationships.
  • Qualify and find new suppliers.
  • Enter cost and selling totals in database for tracking.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to verify project specifications, such as budgets and vendors, to ensure overall efficiencies within the project.
  • Where pre-determined standards are not available, conduct appropriate and reasonable research to provide a logical and well-planned estimate.
  • Continuously monitors for discrepancies, reports them promptly, and contributes to root-cause analysis and mitigation efforts with the team
  • Create initial layouts in CAD, including preliminary systems designs, for customer review.
  • Provide feedback on estimator layouts and advise on product flow and project challenges.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Advise on new and challenging builds, take on more challenging projects that require more consideration.
  • Review and update resource information (standard drawings/specifications, checklists and notes) to ensure items that impact cost are up to date.
  • Maintain adequate lead time on takeoff/estimate preparation.
  • Prepares post fabrication cost analysis, especially for those projects that have been identified as going overestimate, by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the fabrication of items.
  • Assist in the supervision and development of new estimators.
  • Aid manager in reviewing estimates / product quotes.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management preferred.
  • Experience in construction/fabrication
  • 4+ years in cost estimating.
  • High Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software, Excel, Word.
  • Ability to read/understand engineered documents.
  • Ability to work with a sales team and present technical information to potential clients
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capability to interact professionally with customers, subcontractors, and team members.
