Position Summary

The Estimator prepares and coordinates accurate, competitive estimates for commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, controls, and related mechanical work. This role translates bid documents and customer requirements into a clear scope, cost, risk, and execution plan for management review. This position reports to the Senior Estimator.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop complete labor, material, equipment, subcontract, and indirect-cost estimates for assigned commercial mechanical bids.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, schedules, alternates, and contract requirements; document scope, assumptions, exclusions, and risk.
  • Perform or validate takeoffs for plumbing, piping, sheet-metal, equipment, fixtures, valves, supports, insulation, and related systems.
  • Prepare pre-bid questions, material matrices, vendor and subcontractor solicitations, bid comparisons, and estimate recapitulations.
  • Coordinate with engineering, BIM, operations, procurement, and field leaders to validate means, methods, productivity, phasing, and constructability.
  • Prepare professional proposals and required bid forms and participate in estimate reviews, interviews, and handoff meetings.
  • Maintain accurate historical cost, productivity, vendor, and outcome data and apply lessons learned to future estimates.
  • Manage priorities and milestones so deliverables are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of commercial construction estimating, project engineering, field leadership, or closely related mechanical experience.
  • Working knowledge of commercial plumbing, mechanical piping, sheet-metal, equipment, labor productivity, and construction sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, addenda, contracts, and technical submittals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating, takeoff, document-management, and collaboration software.
  • Strong numerical accuracy, organization, communication, judgment, and deadline management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, construction science, or a related field.
  • Journeyman-level trade experience or completion of a mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Fabrication, Power BI, and mechanical estimating platforms.
  • Experience with design-build, conceptual, negotiated, healthcare, data center, or other complex projects.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office with regular visits to active construction sites, customer facilities, shops, or meetings. Site visits may require walking uneven surfaces, using stairs, wearing required PPE, and exposure to weather, noise, dust, and moving equipment. Local travel and schedule flexibility are required based on project needs.
