Job Description

About the Opportunity

We are an established Southern California specialty contractor with more than three decades of experience providing finish carpentry and architectural product packages for some of the region's leading builders and developers.

As we continue to grow our multifamily business, we're looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team and bring additional expertise to this important part of our operation.

This position is specifically focused on the larger, more complex and plan-driven projects associated with multifamily construction. We're interested in candidates who already have direct multifamily experience, as well as estimators coming from commercial finish carpentry, architectural millwork, doors and frames, or closely related specialty trades whose experience translates well into the multifamily environment.

Our estimators play an important role in the success of our projects. This isn't simply a takeoff position. We're looking for someone who understands the scope they're pricing, can recognize what's missing or unclear in the documents, and can develop a complete and accurate estimate that positions the project for success from the beginning.

What You'll Do

You'll take ownership of estimating finish carpentry packages from initial bid documents through completed proposal, working closely with our project management, purchasing and operations teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Review architectural plans, specifications and bid documents to determine complete project scope.
  • Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs for finish carpentry packages.
  • Estimate scopes that may include interior and exterior doors and frames, mouldings and trim, finish hardware, shelving, wardrobe systems and other architectural finish products.
  • Develop accurate material quantities and labor requirements based on project documents and installation conditions.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, scope gaps and potential cost impacts within drawings and specifications.
  • Review addenda, revisions and other bid updates and incorporate changes into estimates.
  • Obtain and incorporate vendor and supplier pricing as appropriate.
  • Prepare clear, competitive proposals with appropriate scope inclusions, exclusions and clarifications.
  • Maintain organized estimating and bid documentation.
  • Collaborate with project management, purchasing and field operations to support a smooth transition from estimating into project execution.
  • Use feedback and actual project performance to continually improve estimating accuracy.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who understands the details behind finish carpentry and knows how to translate construction documents into a complete material and labor estimate.

Our ideal candidate will bring:

  • Previous estimating experience within finish carpentry, architectural millwork, doors/frames/hardware, trim or a closely related specialty trade.
  • Experience estimating multifamily and/or commercial construction projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications and construction documents.
  • Experience completing detailed material and labor takeoffs.
  • Working knowledge of doors and frames, mouldings and trim, hardware, shelving and/or related finish carpentry scopes.
  • Experience carrying an estimate through proposal rather than performing takeoffs alone.
  • The ability to identify scope gaps, inconsistencies and details that could materially affect project cost.
  • Experience working with digital estimating and takeoff tools.
  • An understanding of how estimating decisions ultimately affect purchasing, field installation and overall project performance.

Direct multifamily finish carpentry experience would translate particularly well to our work, but it isn't the only path to success here. We also see strong crossover from commercial estimators who are accustomed to detailed plans and specifications, comprehensive bid packages and the coordination required on larger construction projects.

Why Join Us?

We've been part of the Southern California construction industry for more than 30 years, and we've built our business by understanding the work from beginning to end — from estimating and product selection through purchasing, coordination and field installation.

You'll join an experienced team where estimating is closely connected to the actual performance of the projects we build. You'll have the opportunity to contribute your expertise while helping us continue to strengthen and grow our multifamily business.

In addition to base compensation and benefits, we offer a quarterly bonus program tied to project performance, giving our team the opportunity to participate financially in the success of the work we deliver.

For an estimator who knows finish carpentry and enjoys the detail behind putting together a complete, accurate, and competitive bid, this is an opportunity to bring that expertise to an established company with a significant presence in the Southern California building industry.
