Job Description

Reporting to the Lead Estimator, the Estimator will be responsible for the estimation process from initial bid through to post-bid activities, working closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure accurate pricing and scope of work for each project. The Estimator must work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and coordinate with both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the Estimator will be crucial in preparing detailed cost estimates and maintaining comprehensive project documentation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

This list of functions and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  1. Bid Prep:
  2. Prepare accurate estimates for various bid types such as Budgetary, Public Bid, GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price), and Generic Quotes.
  3. Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors for material pricing, availability, and subcontractor rates.
  4. Review and evaluate bid documents to determine scope, materials, and labor requirements and general conditions.
  5. Participate in pre-bid meetings and walk-throughs, when applicable.
  6. Conduct detailed scope reviews, including providing value engineering options, clarifying discrepancies, and negotiating costs with clients and vendors.
  7. Submit bids via online forms, sealed bids, email, or other methods as required.
  8. Ensure that estimates reflect material specifications, labor rates, and overhead costs.
  9. Track changes in project specifications pre-contract, such as revisions, construction bulletins, and RFIs, and incorporate them into estimates.
  10. Bid Administration:
  11. Maintain accurate records of all project-related documents, including bid forms, construction manuals, and drawings.
  12. Use tools such as HubSpot, Excel, Bluebeam, EPM, and ACAD for estimating and project management tasks.
  13. Communicate effectively with clients to ensure clarity on project requirements and resolve any issues.
  14. Post Bid Activities:
  15. Assist project management with post-award activities, such as final pricing and change orders.
  16. Facilitate project kick-off meeting with the team.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  1. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an estimator.
  2. Minimum of a high school education or GED required
  3. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  4. Proficient in reading and interpreting construction documents, including architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings.
  5. Proficient in understanding specification documents (specs).

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Ability to conceptualize the project schedule from start to finish, including sequence/phasing of work.
  2. Strong knowledge of aluminum, steel, and other related materials in the context of construction and fabrication.
  3. Familiarity with estimating software tools such as Bluebeam, ACAD, and other construction-related programs.
  4. Proficient in utilizing Office 365 Suite
  5. Solid understanding of bidding processes, including GMP, public bids, and budgetary estimates.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
  7. Ability to work independently and prioritize work.
  8. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
  9. Strong negotiation skills and attention to detail.
  10. Experience with working within an ERP system.
  11. Strong math and analytical skills
