Strawser Construction Inc., a subsidiary of Barrett Industries Corporation, provides pavement preservation solutions for public infrastructure and private clients. We are currently looking for an Estimator. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, an Estimator coordinates road construction projects within tight timeframes and budgets, ensuring adherence to project specifications.

Main Responsibilities

  • Research, track, and solicit bid advertisements and bid invitations.
  • Prepare preliminary estimates using best practices for entering bid into HCSS
  • Reviews bid specification data and requirements and plans bid preparation and submission.
  • Serves as primary liaison with client during bid evaluation process and before project start.
  • Attend pre-bid meeting as required.
  • Collect bid documents for target projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with prime contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Analyze documents to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Reviews constructability/production analysis of bid documents.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction operations to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Develop estimates from various types of bid documents and their key components including components such as bonding, insurance, indemnification, and damage clauses.
  • Ensures that any applicable federal/state prevailing wage rates guidelines are considered, monitored, implemented, and maintained per project bid requirements.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft word and excel.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Previous knowledge of Heavy Bid, Heavy Job, and JDE Edwards a plus.
  • Basic understanding of economics and accounting.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Bachelor’s Degree – Engineering, Construction Management or similar technical training/experience preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience of project cost estimating or working in a similar capacity
