About this Role
Quanta Power Solutions is seeking an experienced Estimating Principal to lead estimating strategy, cost development, and proposal support for large-scale power generation, industrial, and energy infrastructure projects. This leader will be responsible for developing accurate and competitive project estimates, guiding preconstruction efforts, and partnering with engineering, procurement, construction, and business development teams to support successful project execution and profitable growth.
The Estimating Principal serves as a subject matter expert for conceptual, budgetary, and detailed estimates while driving estimating best practices, cost database management, and continuous process improvement.
What You'll Do
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead estimating activities for complex EPC, industrial, power generation, and energy infrastructure projects.
- Establish estimating standards, methodologies, tools, and procedures across the organization.
- Mentor and develop estimating professionals while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support executive leadership with project pursuit strategies, bid reviews, and risk assessments.
Estimating & Preconstruction
- Direct the preparation of conceptual, budgetary, and definitive cost estimates.
- Develop labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, indirect cost, contingency, and escalation analyses.
- Oversee quantity takeoffs, pricing validation, and cost benchmarking.
- Coordinate with engineering and construction teams to ensure accurate scope definition and estimate alignment.
- Lead estimate reviews and present findings to executive stakeholders.
Proposal & Business Development Support
- Partner with Business Development and Operations to support client pursuits and proposal development.
- Participate in bid/no-bid evaluations, competitive analyses, and proposal strategy sessions.
- Review solicitation documents, contract requirements, and project risks.
- Support client presentations and technical discussions during procurement processes.
Risk & Cost Management
- Identify project execution risks and develop cost mitigation strategies.
- Maintain and continuously improve estimating databases, historical cost data, and productivity metrics.
- Analyze estimate variances and lessons learned from completed projects.
- Collaborate with Project Controls and Operations to improve estimating accuracy and forecasting.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of progressive estimating experience within power generation, industrial construction, EPC, utility, or energy infrastructure environments.
- Proven experience leading large-scale construction estimates ranging from tens of millions to multi-billion-dollar projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, project controls, procurement, and contract delivery models.
- Experience with estimating software, cost databases, and advanced Excel modeling.
- Exceptional analytical, leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting combined-cycle power, renewable energy, transmission, substation, industrial, or heavy civil projects.
- Professional certifications such as CCP, CEP, CPE, PMP, or equivalent.
- Experience developing capital cost estimates under AACE estimating classifications.
