Job Description

Campbell Property Group (CPG), one of Australia’s leading residential construction and property development companies, is seeking an Estimating Cadet for our Clarendon Homes team in Norwest.

The Estimating Cadet supports the Estimating Department in Clarendon Homes actively engaging in a structured learning program designed to build your knowledge, skills, and capabilities essential to succeed in the residential housing and construction industry. You will take ownership of your development, learn the functions of various estimating roles, and contribute productively to day-to-day operations. A key focus of the role is on building respectful and collaborative relationships across all levels of the business to foster learning, gain insight, and drive effective outcomes throughout the program.

On a daily basis, you will:

  • Demonstrate a mindset of continuous improvement - learning from others, contributing ideas, and striving to be an industry leader
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company projects, clients, systems, policies, and procedures through active engagement and relationship-building
  • Stay informed of industry legislation and regulatory changes relevant to the business
  • Actively engage in on-the-job training and apply learning to real-time tasks
  • Participate in site visits with Building Supervisors to gain practical field knowledge
  • Observe and understand how Managers implement and monitor key estimating workflows and procedures
  • Assist with basic production estimating tasks, including generating calculation sheets
  • Create BOQs, incorporating client variations from tenders
  • Check tender documentation, contract drawings, and colour selection schedules for accuracy and consistency
  • Calculate preliminary profit margins and check subcontractor claims related to variations
  • Support timely preparation of production estimates by updating estimating logs and workflows
  • Collaborate effectively to troubleshoot and resolve preconstruction and on-site issues, supporting the Site Manager and Customer Service Consultants (CSCs) in addressing customer queries and communicating with external contractors/vendors where required
  • Answer all incoming calls promptly and direct to the appropriate person
  • Take messages (name, time of call, nature of business, and person called upon) and direct to the appropriate person
  • Organise and coordinate any requirements of Estimating and Procurement team
  • Provide administrative assistance to Estimating Department (e.g. handling correspondence, inputting data, typing, filing, photocopying, faxing, mail outs)
  • Provide administrative assistance with procurement tenders and analysis administrative support
  • Enter Estimator’s worksheets onto system

About you:

This position requires a detail-oriented and proactive individual with excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to compliance, and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure the successful execution of tasks.

You will also have:

  • Intention to work in Estimating High grades in mathematics.
  • Minimum Secondary School Certificate – Year 10
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Building Studies) or near completion
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel and Outlook)
  • An understanding of invoice checking and general calculations on excel
