This role is a key part of ensuring our community remains safe, attractive and welcoming for residents, visitors and colleagues.

This is a varied position where no two days are the same - from keeping our grounds looking their best, to supporting repairs, inspections, safety checks and general maintenance across the village. If you enjoy practical, outdoor work, take pride in a job well done, and want to be part of a friendly and supportive team, we’d love to hear from you!

What You’ll Do

  • Maintain village buildings, fixtures, fittings and equipment, following planned maintenance schedules.
  • Support repairs and report any faults promptly to management.
  • Carry out regular safety and alarm-system checks.
  • Maintain grounds, including mowing, hedge trimming, planting, pruning, weeding and watering.
  • Monitor plant health and treat pests/diseases in line with environmental guidelines.
  • Keep paths, roadways and walkways safe, including clearing snow and ice in winter.
  • Safely operate and maintain tools, machinery and chemical supplies.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly compliance checks.
  • Respond to emergency calls when trained, including first aid.
  • Work collaboratively with the facilities team to deliver consistently high standards across the village.

What We’re Looking For

  • 1–3 years’ experience in gardening, landscaping, maintenance or a similar practical role.
  • Good practical skills and confidence using maintenance and grounds equipment.
  • Strong awareness of health & safety (COSHH experience beneficial).
  • A customer-focused approach, with the ability to interact positively with residents.
  • Someone reliable, proactive and able to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Physical stamina to carry out manual and outdoor work in all seasons.

Our Values

We’re proud of our culture and the values that shape it:

About Retirement Villages Group Ltd

Our mission:

The UK’s population is ageing, fast, but the country cannot currently cope with the rising demand for active, independent later living. Too many people are therefore forced to live in inappropriate housing or move into care far too soon.

As a pioneer of later living in the UK we recognise the need. We have set out to create amazing, sustainable communities, connected to thriving local centres, breathing new life into urban and suburban neighbourhoods and country locations.

“Our mission is to create positive life choices for older people - built on community, wellbeing, and flexibility. We strive to support people to live their best lives for longer, while ensuring the planet, and our healthcare system, offer the same opportunities to future generations.“

Our story:

We have been a developer and long-term operator of housing-with-care communities since 1981. We built the first community of its kind in the UK at Elmbridge in Cranleigh, Surrey and today we operate 16 sites across the country with over 1500 self-contained homes.

In 2017, Retirement Villages Group was acquired by AXA IM Alts - Real Assets – a global leader in real asset investments and the leading real estate portfolio and asset manager in Europe – on behalf of their clients to provide long-term, sustainable investment in retirement living.

Supported by AXA IM Alts we have ambitious plans to deliver over 5,000 new homes across over 40 new sites in the next ten years making appropriate housing more accessible to a wider group of older people.
