Job Description:

GEO Academies Baton Rouge is seeking a Child Specific Aide to join our team.

We are seeking an experienced child specific aide to join our team. As a Child Specific Aide, you will be responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of a student with a disability in the educational setting.

Services consist of, but are not limited to, assisting with the implementation of classroom programs, including academic instruction, behavior management, and self-help. The Child Specific Aide, under general supervision of the school administration and immediate direction of the certified teacher.

Responsibilities (includes, but are not limited to):

  • Assists teachers with the implementation of academic instruction, self-care, social skills instruction, and behavior management
  • Assists student with a physical disability according to student needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning (if needed)
  • Assists student with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene (if needed)
  • Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to the student’s medical, physical, social and communicative needs
  • Maintains supervision of the student throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom
  • Keeps teachers informed of special needs or problems of the individual student
  • Participates in staff professional development training, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
  • Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and students
  • Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Patience and empathy when working with students
  • Ability to support individual and diverse student needs, including behavior
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Previous experience in an educational setting is a plus, but not required
  • A passion for supporting student learning and development
  • A minimum of an Associates degree or completion of two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education or passing scores on the ETS Parapro Exam
