Job Description

Teach English as a second language to members of the community. Help to make the program arrangements as needed.

Responsibilities

The duties listed below are the primary duties of this position but are not all the required duties. The Salvation Army reserves the right to change, reduce, or expand the duties of this position at any time. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.

· Prepare for in-person class, make sure area is ready for students.

· Teach basic reading, writing, and conversation skills (depending on class level).

· Monitor student attendance and regularly follow-up on absences.

· Prepare classwork, homework, & test for class.

· Give final examination and prepare required documents for end of the year program.

· Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

· Minimum two years of college education; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

· Prior experience teaching adults.

· Fluent in English, with excellent verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

· Attendance and punctuality during program is mandatory.

· Must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and a social services organization.

· Patient, compassionate, and understanding demeanor.

· Proficient in computer skills
