Provides support to ESL teachers to enhance the quality of ESL instruction. Designs and delivers professional development for ESL teachers and content area teachers. Serves as a liaison between ESL and other Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) departments to inform the teaching of English language learner students and to implement language supports across grade levels and subject areas.
Provides supplemental support to ESL teachers to enhance the quality of ESL instruction; conducts a minimum of one school visit to each assigned school annually.
Serves as a liaison between ESL and other WCPSS departments to determine best practices for teaching English learners and to implement practices for equitable access across grade levels and subject areas, including developing and delivering collaborative professional learning opportunities for teachers.
Works collaboratively with the ESL team to design and deliver professional learning for ESL teachers and content area teachers; reports progress of efforts to support schools and special projects to the Senior Administrator and Director of ESL on a regular basis.
Establishes and maintains open communication with other WCPSS departments to inform the teaching of English learners and development of curricular supports, grade levels, and subject areas; participates as a partner in middle school district initiatives, as assigned.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
