Job Summary
The HVAC Technician installs, services, and maintains heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for customers enrolled in the Energy Savings Assistance (ESA) Program, Whole Home Pilot projects, and other energy efficiency programs. The Technician ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with program guidelines and local codes.
Primary Responsibilities
Project Preparation
Review customer work order and project scope prior to arrival.
Verify necessary tools, parts, and materials are available.
Confirm customer appointment and access instructions.
Installation & Service
Perform HVAC installations, repairs, and maintenance according to program specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
Ensure energy-efficient practices are followed, including proper system sizing and ductwork inspection.
Troubleshoot issues and implement solutions to optimize system performance.
Program Compliance
Follow ESA, Whole Home Pilot, and other program requirements.
Ensure all safety protocols and local code regulations are met.
Document work performed in program forms, digital logs, or reporting systems.
Customer Interaction
Communicate clearly and professionally with customers.
Educate customers on proper system operation and energy-saving tips.
Address questions or concerns promptly and professionally.
Reporting & Documentation
Complete required inspection reports, work orders, and program forms accurately.
Submit forms and documentation to the project management team in a timely manner.
Report any project issues or delays to the Supervisor or Project Manager immediately.
Equipment & Vehicle Management
Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicle in clean and safe condition.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and transport of HVAC equipment and materials.
Other Duties as Assigned
Assist with additional programs or projects as assigned.
Support team members with program implementation or field troubleshooting when needed.
Working Conditions
Field-based work performed at residential properties throughout assigned regions
Frequent exposure to outdoor weather, dust, heat, and confined spaces
May require working in attics, crawlspaces, and rooftops
Use of hand and power tools required
PPE provided and required for safety compliance
Physical Requirements
Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 pounds
Prolonged standing, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
Ability to operate tools and equipment safely and effectively
Visual and manual dexterity are necessary for equipment inspections and repairs
Must be able to work in tight or elevated spaces as needed
Qualifications
2–3 years of hands-on HVAC service and installation experience preferred
Minimum 6 months of HVAC service experience required
EPA Type 2 certification required
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Familiarity with diagnostic software and mobile field service technology
