This is a fixed-term appointment with an initial duration of 4 years. Depending upon performance and organisational needs, the appointment may be extended up to a possible maximum duration of 8 years.

Description

You will work within the ESA Academy Unit of the ESA Education Office in the Human Resources Department. The ESA Academy is ESA’s flagship programme for university students and early-career professionals, combining training, project experience and engagement activities to support career readiness in the space sector. Through its training, projects and engagement activity areas, the ESA Academy provides practical learning opportunities, exposure to space professionals, and hands-on experience complementing academic education.

The training activity area delivers a broad portfolio of onsite, online and hybrid learning opportunities covering technical, scientific and professional subjects relevant to the space sector. These activities are developed and delivered in cooperation with ESA experts, industry, academia and other partners, and are increasingly complemented by digital learning resources and e-learning solutions.

In this role, you will be responsible for the management, coordination and continuous development of the ESA Academy training programme.

Duties

  • Manage the planning, coordination, implementation and continuous improvement of ESA Academy Training activities
  • Manage the end-to-end preparation, delivery and follow-up of training sessions
  • Oversee the development and evolution of the training portfolio
  • Coordinate development and quality assurance of training content
  • Manage trainers, lecturers and subject matter experts
  • Manage digital learning resources and e-learning activities
  • Coordinate services, contracts, trainees and early-career professionals
  • Support training infrastructure and learning platforms
  • Maintain relations with universities, research organisations and industry
  • Contribute to outreach and communication
  • Monitor programme performance and prepare reports
  • Support budget preparation and procurement activities
  • Support other ESA Education Office activities as required

Education and professional experience

A master’s degree in a relevant domain is required for this post together with eight years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor’s degree and an additional four years of relevant professional experience may be considered.

Additional requirements

You should have practical experience in managing training, educational or professional development programmes in an international environment. Experience with digital learning solutions, online training delivery and the coordination of training activities involving multiple stakeholders would be an asset.

You should be familiar with modern learning technologies and digital learning environments. Experience with learning management systems, data analysis and reporting tools, including Power BI, would be an asset.

You should be able to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously, manage interfaces with experts, service providers and partner organisations, and ensure high-quality service delivery.

Familiarity with procurement activities, contract follow-up, and the European higher-education environment would be considered assets. Knowledge of the space sector would be advantageous.

Important Information and Disclaimer

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.

During the recruitment process, the Agency may request applicants to undergo selection tests. Additionally, successful candidates will need to undergo basic screening before appointment, which will be conducted by an external background screening service, in compliance with the European Space Agency's security procedures.

Note that ESA is in the process of transitioning to a Matrix setup, which could lead to organisational changes affecting this position.
