
The Energy Solutions Construction Project Engineer will be an “On-Site” employee who reports directly to the Construction Manager. The Construction Project Engineer, or CPE, will be critical to the execution of all internal and contractual reporting, data logging, tracking, scheduling, and overall problem solving that occurs on each specific site. Energy Solutions most commonly builds power generation facilities utilizing natural gas combustion engines as the prime mover / primary power source. Integration with other power sources and technologies, such as batteries, solar, wind, hydrogen fuel cells, and gas turbines are common as well.
Each project will be unique as far as time commitments, location, size & scale, reporting scheme, and job responsibilities. There will be daily interaction with other on-site entities such as vendors, subcontractors, separate contractors, owners, clients, etc. The CPE needs to be comfortable and confident in working with all other parties on site. The CPE needs to be capable of teamwork within the Energy Solutions project team as well, consisting of the Construction Manager, Project Manager, Site Manager, Lead Project Engineer, Application Engineers, QA/QC Specialist, Freight and Logistics Coordinator, etc. This project team will be majority located in Casper WY, and will be the CPE’s main point of interface throughout each project.
During any time off-site or between projects, the CPE’s duties will shift towards pre-construction planning and design optimization efforts with the home office in Casper, WY.
The Construction Project Engineer, CPE, will have a variety of on-site and hybrid responsibilities engaging with home office. The majority of those will consist of the following:
The Construction Project Engineer will professionally represent the company in appearance, positive attitude and work habits. Cooperate with and support others in the company, Caterpillar and preferred suppliers. Perform safe and responsible operation of company vehicles. Prompt completion of required paperwork. Remain current on new Caterpillar and power generation products and updates, have knowledge of and attend approved Caterpillar, power generation, and software product training and industry related trade shows and seminars. Work closely with all other members of the Energy Solutions Engineering, Procurement and Construction, and broader team. Work closely with all client and vendor personnel, as necessary.
A knowledge base of/experience in procurement, engineering/design, manufacturing, freight & logistics, Caterpillar equipment and other common processes is preferred. A demonstrated ability to receive and communicate orders and instructions amongst a project team is required. Knowledge and understanding of the surrounding project elements such as Commissioning, EHS, QA, and Chain of Custody will be required as well.

The CPE will frequently use a computer, and all elements of MS Office, MS Project, and various Engineering and Project Management Software, such as Procore, and AutoDesk (Plant 3D, MEP, Traditional). The PC, telephone, fax and other business tools will be used on a daily basis.
Working hours during home office periods will be 8am to 5pm with additional hours and weekends as needed. Working hours during on-site periods will be job specific based on individual project needs and requirements. There will be the possibility of working 40-70 hour weeks. The CPE must be able to climb up and on equipment and landings to inspect/evaluate machines, equipment, and construction progress or issues on project sites during required walkdowns and site visits. Being able to see, hear and feel machine condition indicators is necessary. Travel is required (both by car and airplane) as the project requires.
