Job Specific Working Conditions:

Part-Time Team Leader Job Description

First priority for your paid time:

  • Planning & executing Monday night clubs/campaigners

  • Meeting with other YL Team Leaders & Supervisor (Nikki) 1-2 x's/month (1/hr)…Wednesdays 1x/mo we meet to go over important things for the month and brainstorm together. On the off weeks, Nikki schedules one 1:1 meeting a month to fit your time.

  • YL Lead - execution of meeting (during Monday), ensuring discipleship of each

  • Communications for team:

    • Weekly follow-up email after club/campaigners

    • Keep organized and share kid contact info from master progression

    • Flyer and plan for Mondays

      • To Nikki by Thursday at noon

      • To team by Friday at noon

      • Flyer on social media

    • Camp invitation accountability

    • Flyer to Elizabeth by Thursday before

  • Attend:

    • Snow camp

    • Summer camp

    • Leadership meetings [Beginning of semester, Leadership fall camp, Christmas party, January leadership day, Wingathon, End of year bbq]

    • Summer: leaderships [monday nights] + Team leader meetings [Thursdays 9-1]

Secondary priority for your paid time:

  • ​Contact work

  • Leader 1:1 meetings

  • Leader recruitment

  • Help at banquet, host a table if applicable

Scripture shows us that leadership is key to the kingdom of Heaven. In our model of Young Life that is campus-centric, having a team leader overseeing a team of volunteer leaders and connecting with key adults is the single greatest factor to the success or failure of Young Life ministry at that school. It is the team leaders job, first and foremost, to lead their team to do excellent Young Life ministry that is relational, incarnational, adventurous, and radical. They will treat their team of volunteers as Jesus treated his 12 disciples. They will spend time with their leaders, coach them, disciple them, and ultimately be their guide as they do ministry as an individual and as a member of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Pray regularly for the leaders on your team and for the kids they know [5-10min/day]
  • Recruit leaders to your team who are indigenous to the school community [goal-1-2/year]
  • Meet with every leader on the team one-on-one [1-2x/semester]
  • Plan and execute clubs using ministry strategy [2x/month]
  • Plan and execute groups/campaigners [2x/month]
  • E-mail team weekly club/campaigners & other important info
  • Participate/Delegate the running of club/campaigners to/with the team
  • Be the ‘face’ of Young Life at the school you team lead for (meet with administration 1x/quarter); go with leaders to do contact work minimum 1x/week)
  • Be an integral part in on-boarding new leaders (go with them to teach them contact work, train them, build engagement with them)
  • Develop a culture of friendship/community with your team through spending time together (Could be: team meeting, post club ice cream, team dinner…)
  • Meet with respective director & other area team leaders (YL, WL, Cap) for ongoing community and training and develop the ‘core competencies’ team leaders need to succeed [2x/month]

Qualifications:

  • 2 years experience as a Young Life leader (must have a firm understanding of the style of ministry Young Life does) OR experience with church youth group (Completion of YL Training)
  • Active faith in Jesus Christ/Active in local church
  • Skill set/Strength Finders that point towards leadership and development of people

Time Required per week (20 hours/week):

  • Club = 3 hours
  • Team Leader Meetings w/ supervisor = 0.5 [mtgs 2x/month]
  • Leader 1:1 Meetings = 1 hour
  • Ministry Prep = 2 hours (parent email, team email, social media, club powerpoint, club talk training)
  • Time at School = 1 hour
  • 2.5 hours extra to do whatever else you need/want

Measurements of Success:

  • Meet with each leader 1:1 at least once each semester.
  • Leaders on your team are challenged to grow in their personal ‘Radical Faith.’
  • Leaders are spending time together and developing ‘Radical Community.’
  • Each leader is doing meaningful contact work
  • You have attended 90% of all TL meetings

Leaders are focused on inviting new kids to club and camp, and in turn inviting those kids to be a part of campaigners. Because of this, club is growing, camp numbers reflect your teams tenure, and campaigners are not only learning to follow Jesus personally but understand the need for their peers to be part of the kingdom.

Compensation

Time Period: 12 months with initial 24 month agreement

Personal Fundraising: None, only for camp trip costs (Wingathon)

Compensation:

  • $25/hr for 10 hours a week

  • YL Budget credit card: $250/month for club

Mission Staff


Mission / AuthorityThrough both training and direct field ministry experience, learn how to lead and participate in effective Young Life ministry.

Ministry Functions:
Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.

  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.

  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community.

  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.

  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.


  • Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.
  • Meet with your volunteer leaders and area leadership on a regular basis.

  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.

  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.

  • Assist in training leaders, team leaders and committee how to work effectively in teams and develop a yearly ministry strategy.

  • Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.

  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.

  • Observe and learn to network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community, including: principals, pastors, parents, potential committee members as assigned by the area director.

  • Assist with camp fundraisers.


  • Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.

  • Lead a team to plan and conduct a new or existing Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.

  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.

  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.


  • Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management.

  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability and transparency using the mission-wide applications.

  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.

  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.

  • Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every kid; review them on a regular basis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience and area needs.


  • Training:
    Missionwide Training
  • None is required.

  • RTD training events such as New Staff Training, Winter Training, Focus Conferences and Young Life University are available on a request basis with approval of the regional director.


  • Regional Training
  • There is no mission-wide regional-level training curriculum.

  • At the regional director’s prerogative, certain regional training events may be required.


  • Area Training
  • Actively engage in training provided by area leadership.

  • Individualized training supervised by the area director designed to develop personal spiritual maturity and enhance personal character.

  • Individualized program to learn and gain competency in ministry skills (e.g., The 5 C’s).

  • Become familiar with area strategy and ministry health as assigned by the area director.

  • Introduction to personal fund-raising principles including familiarity with Basic Elements for Part-time staff.


  • Education:
  • College degree preferred.


  • Qualifications Required for the Job:
    Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
