Veterinary ICU Technician / Assistant Job DescriptionThe Veterinary ER/ ICU Technician/Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to critically ill and hospitalized patients. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. The team members work closely with veterinarians and support staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes and compassionate client communication. Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Monitoring
Provide continuous monitoring of patients, including vital signs, pain assessment, and mentation
Recognize and report changes in patient condition promptly
Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed
Maintain accurate and detailed medical records
Treatment & Procedures
Perform and assist with advanced nursing procedures (e.g., catheter placement, blood draws, CRI management)
Assist veterinarians with emergencies
Manage infusion pumps and monitoring equipment
Ensure proper handling and restraint of patients
Hospitalization Duties
Maintain cleanliness and organization of ICU and treatment areas
Ensure proper sanitation and infection control protocols are followed
Prepare and maintain treatment sheets and patient charts
Provide nutritional support and hygiene care to hospitalized patients
Client Communication
Provide updates to clients as directed by the veterinarian
Offer compassionate support to pet owners during critical situations
Educate clients on discharge instructions when needed
Team Collaboration
Work collaboratively with ER, ICU, and Surgery
Must be a team player
Support a positive, respectful, and professional work environment
Assist in training and mentoring new team members
QualificationsRequired:
At least 1-year experience in a veterinary hospital setting (ER/ICU preferred)
Strong knowledge of animal handling and restraint
Ability to multitask and work under pressure
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50+ lbs
Stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods
Work in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment
Work Schedule
Must be available for weekends, and holidays
Flexibility required based on patient care needs
Overnight Shift 4/10hr shifts

Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 depending on experience, Standiford Veterinary Center employs 130 staff members dedicated to the betterment of veterinary medicine in our region.
