We are seeking an experienced Junior-level Ergonomist industrial and applied ergonomics experience to support one of Apex’s most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. Over the last 2 decades Apex has worked hand and hand with the national aerospace manufacturer helping them achieve their occupational health and safety, ergonomic, environmental and engineering goals. The incumbent will serve as a Jr Level Ergonomist contractor to their Renton, Washington facility.

This role will be a full-time, onsite position. The client has requested 5 days a week/8-hour days, with some days covering shift roll over (9am – 5pm). The current role is slated for 6months, with a likely possibility of extension based on performance, project needs and budget alignment.

The Junior Ergonomist will support the client’s EHS team (specifically the ergonomic group) with the support of ergonomic services via identification, assessments, and mitigation of ergonomic risks in manufacturing and office environments, under the direction of the client’s ergonomics and safety staff.

The Jr Ergonomist plays a key role in supporting the reducing musculoskeletal injury risk, optimizing operational performance, and advancing overall workforce health and safety.---

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site ergonomic assessments in industrial environments (e.g., manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, logistics, construction, utilities).
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize ergonomic risk factors related to manual material handling, repetitive tasks, awkward postures, vibration, and forceful exertions.
  • Help coordinate with EHS, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to implement ergonomic improvements.
  • Support the review and research of published design standards on workstation design, equipment selection, process changes, and job/task design.
  • Support injury prevention efforts, including analysis of MSD trends, root cause investigations, and return-to-work accommodations.
  • Prepare concise technical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations either within our clients’ various reporting systems or as a standalone report.
  • Stay current on ergonomics standards, best practices, and regulatory expectations relevant to industrial work.
  • Support and maintain strong communications between our clients and our Apex leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional ergonomics experience, with an emphasis on industrial settings.
  • Conduct observational ergonomic assessments for production and office workstations using Client-approved tools and methodologies.
  • Perform job/task analyses, including documentation of key risk factors, photos/diagrams as allowed, and summary risk ratings for each task evaluated.
  • With the support of the client’s ergonomic team-develop written recommendations for controls (engineering, administrative, and equipment/fit-up) with implementation priorities and expected risk reduction.
  • Support design and refinement of tools, fixtures, and workstation layouts in collaboration with engineering, operations, and EHS.
  • Assist with follow-up verification (e.g., post-implementation checks, simple exposure/risk scoring) to confirm effectiveness of implemented controls.
  • Prepare concise ergonomic assessment reports and maintain an assessment log summarizing location, task, findings, and status of recommendations.
  • Contribute to targeted training or coaching sessions (e.g., “how to use sit-stand desks,” “material handling best practices”) using client-provided materials.
  • Participate in EHS meetings, incident reviews, and ergonomic case discussions as requested, providing ergonomic input for investigations and corrective action
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Manual material handling analysis
    • Task and job hazard analysis
    • Ergonomic assessment tools (e.g., REBA, RULA, NIOSH Lifting Equation, Strain Index)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and influence front-line workers through effective communication.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification (e.g., AEP, CEAS, CPE)
  • Experience working within EHS or injury prevention programs.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, automation, heavy equipment, and material handling systems.
  • Experience supporting multi-site or enterprise-level ergonomics programs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk industrial facilities, climb stairs/ladders, and observe physical work activities.
  • Ability to lift light equipment (e.g., measurement tools, laptops).

Travel Expectations:

Local travel only. Most likely singular site.

Compensation (annually):

$90,00 - $115,000.

Compensation is directly based on experience and education which will be reviewed and determined upon offer.
