"VALENCE ASYMMETRIES: The positive, the negative, the good and the bad in language, mind and morality” is an interdisciplinary project that seeks to understand the mechanisms that underlie the asymmetries between the positive and the negative across disciplines. The successful candidates will conduct tasks that are transversal to the different work packages of the project. Their research will seek to understand how emotion and affect impact and underlie cognitive processes such as belief formation, decision making, conceptual representation, as well as language production and interpretation. They will work in very close collaboration with Prof. Isidora Stojanovic (project PI) and the entire team.

Tasks:

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in one or more fields concerned by this interdisciplinary project.

  • Write research articles, alone and in collaboration, and submit them to international first-level journals;

  • Disseminate their research at international interdisciplinary conferences, seminars and colloquia;

  • Participate in organizational tasks, such as organizing our weekly seminar, as well as workshops, conferences and outreach events;

  • Participate in weekly in-person team meetings and contribute novel ideas on possible developments of the main project objectives.

We offer:

A full-time research position, without any teaching requirements, with a gross annual salary of 31.196,40€, in a dynamic interdisciplinary team, funded by Prof. Stojanovic’s ERC Advanced grant VALENCE ASYMMETRIES GA N. 101142133.

Qualifications

1. PhD in philosophy, psychology, cognitive sciences or linguistics.

2. Expertise and publications in two (or more) among the following fields:

  • philosophy: philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychology and cognitive sciences, philosophy of emotions, value-theory, metaethics, epistemology;
  • psychology/cognitive science: cognitive psychology, social psychology, psychology of emotions, moral psychology of the person, neuroscience, theory of cognition, decision theory, language processing;
  • linguistics: semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, language acquisition.

3. Experience of collaborating with researchers from different fields, which can be demonstrated by publications in co-authorship and/or participation in interdisciplinary projects (for example: philosophy and psychology; philosophy and linguistics; psychology and linguistics).

Note: prospective applicants not already acquainted with Prof. Stojanovic’s contributions to philosophy and semantics are encouraged to gain some acquaintance before deciding whether to apply.
