Role

Based in London, as part of a global team, the Risk Manager will have responsibility for oversight of the Equity Derivatives business in Europe, covering both flow and structured products.

With the help of our Risk Policies and the overarching Risk Management Framework and in compliance with the Risk Appetite Statements of the Board, the team works directly with the business and in partnership with our second line partners and is responsible for reviewing material transactions, refining risk methodologies and identifying and assessing emerging risks.

The role reports directly to the Head of Equities Risk Management, Europe and works closely with colleagues across the global Equities Risk Management function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and risk manage the relevant Equity Derivatives portfolios in accordance with Group risk policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that market risks arising from the relevant portfolios are identified, understood, captured, reported, escalated as required and managed within risk appetite.
  • Monitor, review and challenge daily risk metrics including VaR, stress testing results, sensitivities, concentration risks, P&L explain and limit utilisation.
  • Update and enhance the limit framework as the relevant risks of the portfolio evolve over time.
  • Analyze complex equity derivatives and structured transactions and assess the resulting market risk exposures and hedging strategies.
  • Review new business initiatives and assess market risks associated with new products and trading strategies.
  • Support the refinement of market risk methodologies and enhancement of market risk analytics.
  • Test and onboard new risk technologies.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders as required including Trading, Product Control, Finance, Audit and Regulators.
  • Prepare analysis and materials for risk committees and governance forums.
  • Support the Head of Equities Risk Management, Europe and Equities CRO as required.

Experience, Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience covering Equity Derivatives, including structured products, within Market Risk Management, Trading, Structuring, Quantitative Analysis, Product Control or a related function at a financial institution.
  • Strong understanding of equity products and the qualitative risks impacting derivatives businesses, including volatility, correlation, dividend, financing and liquidity risks.
  • Degree educated in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics or Financial Mathematics.
  • Experience reviewing market risk exposures, stress testing results, P&L explain and limit frameworks.
  • Track record of working successfully with traders and analysts and communicating effectively with senior management.
  • Good understanding of the regulatory environment applicable to large financial institutions.
  • Ability to participate in risk committees and manage a programme of work.
  • Strong oral and written communication, planning, project management, networking, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Python, VBA or Power BI.
