The APAC Equity Business Manager will play a central role in supporting the APAC Equities franchise, acting as a strategic partner to the Head of Equities and regional trading desks.

This role is integral to driving the execution of business strategy, enhancing platform capabilities, and ensuring a robust governance, risk, and control environment across Asia ex-Japan.

The successful candidate will operate at the intersection of Front Office, Technology, Risk, and Control functions, providing leadership across business initiatives, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.

The role requires strong commercial awareness, project execution capabilities, and the ability to influence stakeholders across a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment.

Role Prerequisites:

1. Business Strategy & Strategic Initiatives

  • Partner with senior management to define and execute strategic priorities for the APAC Equities platform, ensuring alignment with regional and global objectives.

  • Lead and support end-to-end delivery of strategic initiatives, from ideation and business case development through to implementation and post-delivery review.

  • Drive business expansion and platform enhancement initiatives across Asia ex-Japan markets, including new product rollout, market entry, and trading capability development.

  • Identify opportunities to improve business performance, optimize resource allocation, and enhance revenue generation across trading desks.

2. Governance, Risk & Control Framework

  • Establish and maintain a strong governance framework to support daily trading activities, ensuring adherence to internal policies and external regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor business risks across trading activities, including market, operational, and conduct risk, and ensure timely escalation and remediation of issues.

  • Work closely with Risk Management and Compliance functions to ensure effective implementation of regulatory changes and control enhancements.

  • Contribute to strengthening supervisory structures, including development of control processes, risk metrics, and management reporting.

3. Stakeholder Management & Senior Advisory

  • Act as a key interface between the Equities business and corporate functions including Risk, Compliance, Legal, Finance, IT, and Operations, ensuring alignment on priorities and timely resolution of issues.

  • Support senior management by providing data-driven insights on business performance, risk exposures, and operational matters to inform decision-making.

  • Facilitate cross-regional coordination with global stakeholders (Asia, Japan, EMEA, Americas) on strategic and operational topics.

  • Represent the Equities business in governance forums, committees, and regulatory discussions as required.

  • Work closely with Business Management teams in the Tokyo head office, to ensure alignment and obtain support or sponsorship on various business initiatives as may be required from the head office.

4. Project Management & Change Execution

  • Lead and coordinate complex, cross-functional projects spanning Front Office, Technology, and Control functions.

  • Drive implementation of business and technology initiatives, including enhancements to trading platforms, electronic trading capabilities, and infrastructure.

  • Ensure disciplined project governance, including clear milestones, stakeholder alignment, risk tracking, and timely delivery.

  • Oversee transition of initiatives from project phase into Business-as-Usual (BAU), ensuring appropriate ownership and sustainability of outcomes.

5. Business Oversight & Run-the-Bank (RTB) Support

  • Provide day-to-day business management support to trading desks, addressing operational, regulatory, and control-related matters.

  • Coordinate responses to operational incidents across the Equities platform, including:

    • Regulatory or compliance breaches

    • System outages and technology incidents

    • Market and credit risk events

    • Client-impacting issues and escalations

    • Settlement failures, liquidity constraints, or funding challenges

  • Ensure effective communication and escalation across stakeholders during incidents, driving timely resolution and post-incident remediation.

  • Support continuous improvement of operational processes and control environment to enhance business resilience and efficiency.

Candidate Profile

Required:

  • Proven track record in delivering strategic initiatives and managing cross-functional projects.

  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks and risk management within trading businesses.

  • Excellent stakeholder management, and written/verbal communication skills

  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, multi-region, diverse workplace environment with competing priorities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in Equities, Global Markets, or Business Management within an investment banking environment is preferred.
