Equipment Technology Manager

Ultium Cells Overview:

Ultium Cells, LLC. manufactures battery cells used in electric cars and other electric vehicles in a joint venture between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that utilizes the latest battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world.

Ultium Cells produces battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications. Ultium Cells’ partners include LG Energy Solution, Ltd.; the world’s largest manufacturer of automotive battery cells, and General Motors; a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around.

The Equipment Tech Manager will oversee, plan, and direct the maintenance activities for the Equipment Maintenance team. This role requires a highly organized and proactive individual with excellent leadership skills. The Preventive Maintenance Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the Equipment Maintenance will be responsible for ensuring that the Equipment Maintenance team properly repairs and maintains all equipment to remain in proper working condition, which minimizes downtime and maximizes efficiency.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create maintenance schedules and generate work orders and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Serve as Liaison between Equipment Maintenance, Production teams, and Original Equipment Manufacturers to coordinate execution of time and condition-based maintenance tasks
  • Maintain records and files essential to equipment maintenance management
  • Adjust schedules to account for unexpected emergency work
  • Prepare preventive maintenance plans that are aligned with the organization’s maintenance goals
  • Assist and support Maintenance Manager
  • Assist and support Equipment Team Leader
  • Manage information uploaded to EMS System
    • 1.Upload and modify Daily Check Execution tasks - information provided through feedback from Supervisors, Engineers, Technicians, OEM Manuals and other Ultium Cells sites.
    • 2.Upload and modify PM Operations, Activities and Associations - information provided through feedback from Supervisors, Engineers, Technicians, OEM Manuals and other Ultium sites.
    • 3. Upload spare part information - information provided through feedback from Planner, Supervisors, Engineers, Technicians, OEM Spare and other Ultium sites.
    • 4.Upload standardized work documents and attach to PMs
  • Collaborate with other Ultium sites to review lessons learned and PM effectiveness
  • Collaborate with Planners, Engineering, OEMs, Production, Quality, Maintenance and any other groups to identify PM and Daily Check opportunities that will improve machine uptime and throughput
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to complete Root Cause Analysis when necessary
  • Collaborate with Production, Reliability, and Maintenance Supervisors to create Standardized Work
  • Collaborate with Planner, Engineers, Supervisors and Technicians to gather parts for planned downtime repairs and projects
  • Identify Continuous Improvement opportunities supporting Ultium's Lean Manufacturing systems
  • Cl Principle (Reduce machine failure and repair time to improve MTTR and MTBF)
  • Assist in machine breakdown events as needed and coordinate outside resources when necessary
  • Collaborate with Equipment Engineers, Supervisors, and Technicians to identify training opportunities

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Engineering preferred
  • 5 to 10 Years Industrial Maintenance Engineering, preferred
  • Driven by objectives/KPI’s; consistent; and high personal ownership to upholding accountability to established standards and practices
  • Enforce safety and other applicable rules and regulations. Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments
  • Ability to use Logical thinking and decision making by focusing on identifying root cause objectively using data, analyzing production results, and following proven problem-solving methods
  • Direct, coordinate, lead and mentor the activities of team members
  • Document and follow up on SOP’s
  • Maintain related records, logs, and paperwork
  • Ensuring all team members are utilizing time effectively
  • Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs for process equipment.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • MS Office tool-based report writing and oral communication skills
  • Good computer, troubleshooting, problem-solving, critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required by operational needs (including shift support and emergency troubleshooting).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Korean preferred (to plant effective communication and technical support within the joint venture and OEM).
