Under general supervision, to perform basic servicing of county motor vehicles, maintenance, and construction equipment; to purchase, receive, and install tires on county motor vehicles; to assist journey mechanics on maintenance and repair jobs; to clean the interior and exterior of STAGE buses; to do minor maintenance and repair work on the county airports; to drive a variety of motor vehicles as needed and which may include STAGE vehicles, and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a working level Equipment Service Worker classification. Incumbents perform a variety of basic servicing, mechanics assistance, tire installation, cleaning, maintenance, and repair work, and driving various types of vehicles as needed.
REPORTS TO
Transit Services Coordinator or Equipment Maintenance Manager, Automotive Service Manager, Senior Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

Essential Functions:
Purchases, receives and installs tires used on county vehicles; inspects and ensures proper maintenance of tires, mechanical steering components, lighting, and wheel alignment; checks tire air pressure, and repairs tires and tubes; makes decisions on tire repair or replacement; contacts vendors regarding specifications, volume purchasing, and product problems; keeps adequate tire inventory for a variety of motor vehicles; services and lubricates equipment; performs basic equipment inspections and preventive maintenance on motor vehicles and county airports, reporting problems to senior staff; performs basic repairs and tune-ups; assists with the inspection, location, and diagnosis of mechanical defects on county motor vehicles and airport and emergency equipment; assists with major overhauls and repairs; changes and installs belts and hoses; fits tire chains; assists with ordering and maintaining general parts and supply inventory; may fill in as relief driver on variety of equipment including low bed and belly dump trucks, and STAGE vehicles; cleans interior and exterior of vehicles; and maintains bus stops.

Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
One year of responsible work experience in performing basic motor vehicle servicing and maintenance and repair work which included tire repair and replacement.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid and appropriate driver's license with appropriate certifications which may include medical, air brake, passenger endorsement, and vehicle transit training (VTT).
Applicants will be required to submit to a pre-employment physical examination.
This job classification is required to participate in the County of Siskiyou Drug and Alcohol Testing program as mandated by the Department of Transportation. Applicants will be required to submit to a pre-employment/pre-duty drug test. This position will also be subject to random drug and alcohol tests once employed by the County.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasionally sits; frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use a variety of hand and power equipment used in the mechanical trades; use a computer and telephone; operate a variety of vehicles.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a shop environment; occasionally works outdoors in all types of weather; exposure to smoke, gasses, and fumes; exposure to hazards such as moving machine parts and electrical current; drives county roads under various weather conditions; continuous contact with other staff.
