This position is responsible for assisting the Fuels, Scales, Environmental Team Manager in day to day operations of the statewide Scales Program. Performs the repair, maintenance, service and calibration of all port of entry scales and large trailers statewide. Maintain and repair the wiring, brakes, hydraulic systems, replace tires, hitch system. Troubleshoot static scales out at the sites with load cells and electronic parts using voltmeters and other repair methods. Requires flexibility with work hours over days/nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate emergency repair work and varied schedules. Extensive statewide travel is required to fulfill job functions, and may be in travel status for several weeks in a row.

Job Duties:
Assigns work activities to repair technicians on calibration, coordination and testing of scales at ports of entry locations to meet Federal Highway Administration and Department of Weights and Measurements requirements. Directs shop activities during the supervisor’s absence.
Coordinates and supervises repairs for equipment technicians and vendors, approves parts ordering and maintains and monitors a repair and inspection database.
Makes final decisions on inspections and compliance checks to port of entry scales to include weigh bridges, lever systems, dial indicators, weigh-to graphs and load calls.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Selective Preference(s):
5 years journey level experience and equipment shop leading experience.
Experience in the direct contact of Weigh in Motion (WIM) scales, statistical platform enforcement scales, portable enforcement ramp scales and hand carried enforcement scales.
Experience with Cardinal scales, Btech, Intercomp, Southwestern Scale, Flex-weigh, Haenni, Load O" Meter Toledo, Fairbanks, and Weightronics and a NIST Handbook44 Certification is highly recommended.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
Class B CDL within six months of employment.
EPA 609 Certification within 6 months of employment.
Certified Licensed Scale Serviceman - Department of Weights and Measures, Confined Space and Forklift Certification within 9 months of employment.
