Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Equipment Operator III properly operates all equipment and hand tools. May assist with installation work of irrigation pipes and perform various landscape installation functions. Works with the Supervisor and is responsible for oral/written reports on activities assigned by Supervisor.

Compensation:

$28.80/hour (non-exempt)

Reports to: Working Foreman, Assistant Landcaping Manager, Sr Landscaping Manager

Essential Duties

  1. Operates equipment as required, including but not limited to,front end loader; backhoe; excavator; telehandler; skid steer; and hand-operated trencher.
  2. Operates power tools such as weed whackers, power mowers, power chainsaws, etc.
  3. Performs pre-start up maintenance such as checking proper oil level, water, proper tire air pressure, etc.
  4. Performs installation of landscaping material with limited supervision.
  5. May assist with Installation of irrigation system, including irrigation valves; sprinkler heads; air relief valves; and other system components.
  6. Informs Supervisor of any work discrepancies or equipment malfunctions.
  7. Submits oral or written reports to the Supervisor.
  8. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of all phases of work under their jurisdiction.
  9. Follows all safety standards for landscaping construction operations.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualification/Requirements:
  • 2 to 3 years of previous experience in landscape installation and landscape equipment operation.
  • Requires relating to people in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Requires working to the established procedures and maintaining reliable work attendance.
  • Requires good verbal communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Able to think and make effective decisions quickly.
  • Ability to create effective working relationships with employees.
  • Must be able to maintain a positive attitude and work under pressure.

Required Work Cards/Certifications:

  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and successful review of Motor Vehicle Record

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and color vision.
  • The employee is occasionally required to operate objects, tools, or controls.
