Examples of duties

This position centers on operating vehicles and equipment to support the daily needs of the Delaware Valley Veterans' Home. You ensure safe travel, proper equipment care, and steady assistance for facility operations. As a Equipment Operator A, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vehicle Operation: Operate passenger cars, trucks, vans, buses, and an invalid coach to transport residents for medical appointments, treatments, transfers, and activities
  • Material Transport: Make local and long distance pickups and deliveries of materials, mail, supplies, and medical items
  • Equipment Use: Operate snow removal, cinder spreading, and hauling equipment during inclement weather and maintenance work
  • Safety Checks: Complete inspections and safety checks of vehicles and equipment before operation
  • Maintenance Work: Perform minor repairs, preventive maintenance, washing, waxing, greasing, and assist auto mechanics with major repairs
  • Facility Support: Load and unload vehicles, maintain work areas, keep records and logs, complete paperwork, and use hand and power tools properly

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.


Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
