TxDOT's Fleet Operations Division is seeking one (1) Equipment Mechanic I, II or III based in Austin, TX. This position supports TxDOT's mission by maintaining and repairing a wide range of wheeled vehicles, including passenger vehicles, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and construction equipment. Fleet mechanics play a critical role in keeping Texas moving. We support daily operations and respond to emergency and inclement weather events that impact communities across the state. This position is open to both experienced mechanics and those looking to develop their skills in a structured, supportive environment.

Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Education: No degree/diploma required.
Experience:
Equipment Mechanic I - 2 years in Automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair
Equipment Mechanic II - 4 years in Automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair
Equipment Mechanic III - 7 years in Automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics and repair
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
