Job Summary

The Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of a wide variety of vehicles, equipment, and machinery used throughout the facility’s year-round operations. This position supports the safe and reliable operation of mountain, grounds, facilities, snowmaking, grooming, and recreational equipment. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, recordkeeping, and emergency response repairs. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and may require independent decision-making and prioritization of tasks.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, equipment, machinery, and mechanical systems according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Inspects, diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, suspension, drivetrain and braking systems.
  • Conducts equipment inspections and identifies deficiencies, safety concerns, and maintenance needs.
  • Performs emergency repairs in the field and responds to equipment breakdowns as operational needs require.
  • Maintains accurate and complete maintenance, inspection, repair, and service records.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory levels of parts, fluids, tools, supplies, and shop equipment.
  • Performs welding, fabrication, and metal repair work as skills, training, and operational needs permit.
  • Assists with seasonal equipment preparation, setup, and shutdown activities.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment as necessary for testing, transport, maintenance, and repair purposes.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe shop and work environment.
  • Follows all applicable safety procedures, regulations and lockout/tagout practices.
  • Identifies and communicates unusual operating conditions, equipment failures, and safety concerns to management.
  • Assists other departments with maintenance and operational projects as assigned.
  • Provides support during special events and seasonal operations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma of GED preferred.
  • Most possess a valid Class D driver’s license; Class A CDL preferred.
  • Mechanical experience through employment, education, training, military service or other related experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of vehicle, equipment, and machinery maintenance principles.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshot mechanical and operational issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, service information, and technical documents.
  • Ability to understand basic electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers, vendors, and other departments.
  • Welding, fabrication, machining, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel engine experience preferred.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, squat, reach, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Ability to safely work around moving machinery, vehicles, and powered equipment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment on steep, uneven, or slippery terrain.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds regularly, 50 pounds frequently, and 70 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
  • Ability to respond to equipment breakdowns and operational emergencies.
  • Physical presence at worksite is essential to perform job duties.

Are you a skilled and hands-on individual with a knack for diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment? We’re looking for a dedicated Equipment Mechanic to help keep our fleet running smoothly and safely!

Under general supervision, and with the support of a skilled team of experienced mechanics, this position will receive on-the-job training while performing diagnostics, repairs and maintenance on various types of vehicles and equipment. This includes “on” and “off” road vehicles, heavy equipment, all-terrain vehicles, snow grooming equipment and snowmobiles. This position also assists other departments as needed and performs emergency repairs in the field.

Starting hourly rate commensurate with experience: $19.00 - $30.00.

What We’re Looking For:

  • At least one year of relevant experience or equivalent education.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Valid Class D driver’s license (Class A preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
