The Materials Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling all site material management activities for assigned power generation construction projects. This position supports civil construction scopes including deep foundations, underground utilities (piping and electrical), and concrete foundations. The Materials Manager ensures that purchased materials are properly received, inspected, stored, tracked, issued, and documented to support safe, efficient, and timely project execution.
This role serves as the primary site lead for material control and inventory management activities and works closely with Project Management, Procurement, Construction Operations, Quality Control, Safety, Vendors, and Client representatives to ensure material availability and compliance with project requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

Safety & Quality

  • Promote and enforce Baker Power & Process safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all material handling and storage activities comply with project safety requirements.
  • Participate in site safety meetings, audits, and inspections.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control requirements related to material traceability and documentation.
  • Maintain housekeeping and organization within storage and laydown areas.

Material Receiving & Inspection

  • Coordinate and manage all incoming deliveries to the project site.
  • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, bills of lading, and approved submittals.
  • Perform and document receipt inspections for quantity, condition, damage, and specification compliance.
  • Identify, document, and report shipping discrepancies, shortages, damages, and non-conforming materials.
  • Coordinate resolution of material discrepancies with Procurement, Vendors, Quality Control, and Project Management.
  • Ensure all received materials are properly tagged, labeled, and entered into project tracking systems.
  • Maintain receiving logs and supporting documentation in accordance with project procedures.

Inventory Management & Storage

  • Develop and maintain organized laydown yards, warehouses, and storage areas.
  • Ensure materials are stored in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, contract requirements, and quality standards.
  • Implement preservation and protection requirements for stored materials.
  • Monitor storage conditions for sensitive materials including piping components, electrical equipment, embeds, anchors, and specialty construction materials.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and perform routine inventory audits and cycle counts.
  • Coordinate material transfers between storage locations and work areas.
  • Track consumables, bulk materials, and engineered equipment inventories.

Material Issuance & Construction Support

  • Coordinate and process material issue requests (“ticket pulls”) for field installation activities.
  • Verify issued materials align with approved IFC drawings, work packages, and installation requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for all material issuance transactions.
  • Support craft supervision and field engineers in identifying material availability and shortages.
  • Coordinate just-in-time material deliveries to support construction schedules.
  • Ensure traceability of materials from receipt through installation when required by project specifications.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain complete and accurate material control documentation and records.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly material status reports for project leadership.
  • Track open purchase orders, pending deliveries, backorders, and critical material shortages.
  • Maintain records of receiving inspections, non-conformance reports, storage inspections, and material issuance logs.
  • Support project turnover documentation and material reconciliation efforts.
  • Assist with preparation of owner reporting and audit documentation.

Requirements

Minimum Years Exp:

  • Minimum 5 years of material management, warehouse, logistics, or inventory control experience on industrial or heavy civil construction projects required.
  • Power generation, industrial, or EPC project experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting civil construction scopes including:
    • Deep foundations
    • Underground piping systems
    • Underground electrical systems
    • Concrete foundations
    • Embedded materials and anchor systems
  • Experience with material tracking systems and construction documentation preferred.


Minimum Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field preferred.

Competencies & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of construction material control processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and work packages.
  • Ability to read packing slips, purchase orders, shipping documents, and material certifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and material tracking software systems.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
