About This Position:

In this position, you will perform on-site inspections of Section 42 equipment and vehicles located throughout the state to ensure they are operating safely and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include documenting inspection findings, identifying needed repairs, and assisting with maintenance and repairs as required.

This role requires the ability to work independently, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and adapt to changing conditions in the field. You will also participate in DOTD training programs and continuing education opportunities to maintain and expand your technical knowledge. The work you perform is essential to supporting the reliability and safety of the Department's equipment and operations while ensuring compliance with DOTD policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Examples of duties

Three years of experience in the repair, inspection, or operation of mobile equipment or heavy mobile equipment; OR

Three years of experience in the inspection of automotive equipment.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Conduct on-site preventive maintenance and safety inspections of Section 42 equipment and vehicles, document equipment conditions, recommend corrective actions, and assist with repairs as needed.
  • Monitor and track equipment repairs performed by DOTD personnel and outside vendors to ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Collaborate with managers and maintenance supervisors to assess equipment needs and provide recommendations for equipment purchases and specification updates.
  • Maintain detailed equipment inventory records, including asset locations, maintenance history, repair records, and current mechanical condition.
  • Evaluate equipment maintenance products, assist with updates to Equipment Operations and Control Program (EOCP) guidelines, and recommend improvements to maintenance practices and product specifications.

Compensation: The s tarting hourly rate is $22.52 and goes up to $40.53
License Requirements Class A CDL or Class B at time of appointment
