What to Expect

The Production Control Equipment Engineering Team is searching for an engineer who will lead the design and implementation of automated material handling systems for new and existing programs at Giga Austin. The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile, and highly motivated team to accomplish some of the most ambitious projects being attempted in any industry today.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement highly automated material handling solutions to establish new and improve existing material flows throughout the factory
  • Design automated material solutions for material arriving at docks, automated delivery to line-side locations, material transport between internal manufacturing lines, buffer/storage systems, and robotic material handling solutions
  • Concept development, detailed engineering design, and collaboration with vendors on system build, installation, commissioning, and acceptance test, start up production, and smooth handoff to operations at Giga Austin
  • Develop analytical models to establish design criteria and overall system performance criteria
  • Responsible for specifying equipment in form of project specifications, requirements, and generating request for quotations (RFQs)
  • Drive equipment and process optimization to increase yield, throughput, and availability while reducing cost and lead time
  • Support and provide inputs in the modeling and simulation of individual technologies and entire systems
  • Investigate and research advanced technologies to optimize material handling equipment and systems
  • Technical project management and implementation includes managing budget, timeline, identification of critical spare parts, and scope
  • Communication with internal and external stakeholders and vendors about project status, critical items, and priorities

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of automated material handling and process equipment design and implementation experience in ASRS, conveyance systems, robotics material handling and AGVs or AMRs
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks, or similar modeling software
  • A solid Engineering background with passion and hands-on experience in designing and developing automated manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Ability to apply principles of logical and innovative thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all organizational levels
  • Ability to lead a project from concept through to installation and hand-over while working in a close-knit team environment
  • Attitude that values people, ethics, commitment, creates fun and engaging culture
  • Knowledge of and experience with material flow strategies and dynamic manufacturing systems
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage several complex projects at the same time with high degrees of variation and uncertainty
