Job Description

Epec Oy is a system supplier specializing in advanced electric / electronics for efficient, safe and connected NRMM non-road mobile machines and commercial vehicles. Being close to our customers is how we continuously co-create and innovate sustainable future technology solutions that make a difference. Epec works in cooperation with leading international machine manufacturers and belongs to the Ponsse Group. Our solutions are used in environments where reliability, safety and lifecycle performance are business-critical.

We are now looking for a Control System Architect to take responsibility for system-level architecture in Epec’s advanced control systems and display solutions for demanding mobile machinery.

This is a senior technical role where product requirements, customer needs and embedded technology are translated into clear system-level architecture and engineering direction. You will help ensure that Epec’s control systems, display solutions and integrated system offering are technically robust, scalable, safe and aligned with future customer needs.

You will report directly to Janne Tarsa, Business Line Director, Control Systems.

Where system requirements become architecture

As Control System Architect, you will define how Epec’s control systems and display solutions are built at system level.

This is not a narrow component or software design role. Your focus is the technical big picture: how product requirements, platforms, subsystems, interfaces, software, hardware and customer needs connect into reliable and commercially relevant solutions.

You will work closely with product managers, hardware, software and firmware teams, V&V, functional safety and cybersecurity experts, suppliers, project managers and other system architects. Together with other Epec system architects, you will contribute to the system-of-systems architecture on which Epec’s integrated system offering is based.

Success in this role requires the ability to structure complexity, lead through expertise and communicate clearly across engineering, product and business stakeholders.

What you will own

You will be responsible for system-level architecture and requirements for Epec’s control systems and display solutions.

In practice, this means that you will:

  • define and maintain system-level architecture for Epec’s control systems, display solutions and related platforms, ensuring that product requirements, customer needs and technical solutions form a coherent whole

  • translate stakeholder, product and customer requirements into clear system and subsystem requirements, including performance, resource budgets, latency, diagnostics, interfaces, safety, cybersecurity and lifecycle needs

  • decompose requirements and architectural decisions across hardware, firmware, application software, basic software, interfaces and external systems, including HW/SW partitioning and interface definitions

  • lead architectural trade-off studies and reviews related to performance, cost, safety, scalability, reuse, lifecycle needs and technical feasibility, acting as a technical decision authority within development projects

  • work closely with functional safety, cybersecurity and V&V experts to ensure that architectural decisions are safe, secure, testable, traceable and aligned with relevant engineering practices

  • apply MBSE principles, SysML and architectural tools in system modelling and architectural definition, while supporting root-cause analysis, corrective actions and technical guidance across multiple engineering teams

Your role is to make sure that the technical concept stays coherent from product definition to implementation. You are not expected to solve every detail yourself, but you are expected to understand how the parts fit together and guide the organisation toward technically sound decisions.

Who’d be a match for this

We are looking for an experienced system architect or senior technical expert who understands embedded systems and can operate confidently between product needs, software, hardware and system-level engineering.

You may come from an OEM, a Tier 1 or Tier 2 supplier, or from a company building embedded products, industrial electronics, control systems, displays, vehicle technology, industrial software or automation solutions for demanding environments. You do not need to have worked specifically with off-highway machines, but you should understand what it means to build technology that must work reliably in the field.

A background in system architecture, embedded software architecture, control systems, vehicle electronics, industrial electronics or a closely related senior technical role would be highly relevant.

A software-oriented background is especially valuable, as software plays an increasingly important role in Epec’s products and system offering. At the same time, you should understand enough about hardware, electronics and embedded development to discuss architecture trade-offs credibly across domains.

Experience from off-highway, agricultural, forestry, construction, mining, harbour equipment, heavy commercial vehicles or related supplier environments is a strong advantage. Understanding of displays, ECUs, embedded platforms, machine communication, diagnostics, real-time systems or lifecycle requirements is also highly relevant.

Experience with MBSE, SysML, Enterprise Architect or similar architectural tools is considered an advantage.

Knowledge of functional safety and cybersecurity standards, methods and engineering practices is highly valuable in this role. Relevant experience may come from standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, EN ISO 13849, IEC 62443 or ISO/SAE 21434, or from comparable safety-critical and security-critical industries where structured safety, risk, validation and cybersecurity practices are part of product development.

English is the working language in this role. Finnish language skills are considered a plus, but they are not required.

What sets you apart

You are at your best when technical complexity needs structure. Product requirements are evolving, software and hardware constraints need to be balanced, customer expectations are high and the architecture still needs to remain scalable and maintainable.

You can look at a product idea and understand what it means for software, hardware, firmware, diagnostics, safety, cybersecurity, interfaces and lifecycle. You do not get lost in details, but you are credible enough to challenge details when they matter.

You understand that good architecture is not only technically elegant. It also needs to be feasible, reusable, cost-aware and useful for customers.

This is a communication-heavy role. You are comfortable aligning experts, challenging constructively, documenting decisions and keeping the technical direction clear even when several stakeholders are moving at once.

Recruitment process and practicalities

The role is hybrid and can be based flexibly in Finland. Epec has key sites in Finland in Tampere, Turku and Seinäjoki. Regular presence at Epec locations is expected especially during onboarding and when collaboration requires it. Other locations in Finland may also be possible, provided that you are willing to travel to Epec sites when needed. You should have readiness and willingness to travel to customer sites as part of the role, approximately 10% of working time.

Notarec acts as Epec’s recruitment partner in this process. The application period is open until 16 August 2026, and interviews will take place during August. We will get back to all applicants as soon as possible and in any case by the end of August.

If you have questions about the role or the recruitment process, please contact Notarec’s recruitment team: Sofia Järnström at 044 745 4492 or sofia at notarec dot fi.

Due to the nature of Epec’s business and customer environments, the selected candidate may be subject to background or security-related checks during the recruitment process.

We are interested in hearing from people whose background may not match every single point, but who recognise themselves in the core of the role.
