Environmental Technician
Department: Environmental, Safety & Health
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Kyger Creek
Compensation: $32.86 - $50.60 / hour
Perform specialized and technical work of a moderate grade of skill related to environmental control and compliance, industrial hygiene sampling, and plant process control and efficiency. In general, this would include sample and data collection, analysis, evaluation, and recordkeeping.
Expected to align personal goals with the Mission, Vision, and values of OVEC/IKEC.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform duties in accordance with all safety policies, procedures and at the direction of supervision, applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations, and all applicable company rules and operating procedures.
- Clean and maintain all sampling and laboratory analytical equipment in good working order.
- Collect air, water, coal, oil, ash, waste, and/or other production-related samples, field data, and other data related to chemical and/or environmental control and compliance, industrial hygiene control and compliance, and plant process control and efficiency.
- Conduct chemical analyses of air, water, coal, oil, ash, gypsum, waste, and/or other production-related samples related to chemical and/or environmental control and compliance, and plant process control and efficiency.
- Properly record all pertinent data regarding samples collected, analysis performed, and other production related assignments.
- Maintain detailed records of dates, times, locations, and other pertinent information related to collection of the above-referenced samples, field data, and other data.
- Prepare all necessary paperwork and package all collected samples to be analyzed at off-site laboratories for transport to those laboratories.
- Assist in training other employees in work of this nature, as assigned.
- Instruct and assist others assigned to assist in the work.
- Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
- Assist employees of higher classifications as assigned.
- Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Must possess the general knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or the responsibilities listed above.
• A two-year associate degree or 1-year relevant job experience in an equivalent position.
• Must satisfactorily complete, in such time frames as established by the Company, all required training to advance to the next higher classification in the line of promotion.
• Ability to deal with other employees and various regulatory personnel in a courteous and professional manner.
• Ability to plan work and to properly instruct and brief others.
• Must maintain any certification and/or requirements as designated by the Company or federal and/or state law.
• Familiarity with the Company safety and environmental rules and applicable policies and procedures.
