Under the guidance of the IES Technical Manager (or designee), the Environmental Summer Intern will support the Environmental team at an active bulk fuels terminal. This role offers a mix of field and office work, with a focus on helping the team maintain compliance with environmental regulations related to petroleum storage, handling, and distribution. The Environmental Summer Intern will gain hands-on experience with waste management, air emissions, spill prevention, stormwater programs, and environmental reporting within a fuel logistics operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Environmental Compliance Support
◦ Support environmental compliance programs related to terminal operations, including Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC), stormwater, air emissions, and waste management.
• Monitoring, Inspections, and Field Activities
◦ Participate in stormwater sampling, inspections, and permit compliance activities (e.g., SWPPP).
◦ Assist in maintaining environmental records, logs, and compliance documentation.
◦ Observe and gain exposure to bulk fuel storage and transfer operations to better understand associated environmental risks.
• Data Tracking and Reporting
◦ Help track, compile, and document throughput, emissions, and waste data to support regulatory reporting.
◦ Assist in preparing reports for regulatory agencies and internal audits.
◦ Maintain environmental records, logs, and compliance documentation.
• Learning and Professional Development
◦ Build and develop practical knowledge of environmental regulations affecting terminal operations, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, SPCC requirements, and other applicable regulations.
◦ Develop an understanding of bulk fuel storage and transfer operations and associated environmental risks.
◦ Gain experience in field inspections, environmental monitoring, and compliance reporting.

OTHER DUTIES
• Proactively updates and maintains operating standards, emergency procedures and any other documents as needed.
• Performs a variety of special assignments as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• Strong academic performance (preferred GPA: 3.0 or higher)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
• Valid Driver’s License

Desirable Skills
• Familiarity with Maximo or similar maintenance/database systems is a plus

• Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.
• This is a safety sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
• Valid driver’s license with clean abstract.

• IES operates as a TWIC secured facility. Employees who do not possess a valid TWIC are required to be escorted in secured areas.

PAY AND BENEFITS
Island Energy Services offers a competitive rate of pay commensurate with qualifications and experience. The hiring pay range for this position is $22.00/hr - $25.00/hr.
