Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional position responsible for independently conducting the Biomedical Waste, Body Piercing and Tattoo program permitting and inspections. Appropriate dress and transportation shall be provided by the incumbent at all times. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.

The incumbent in this position is responsible for activities in the Biomedical Waste (BMW) program as required by Chapters 381.80 and 395.002, Florida Administrative Code (FAC). The incumbent issues biomedical waste permits, maintains and updates a list of those persons and places involved in generating biomedical waste. The incumbent inspects all permitted BMW generators annually. Exempt permitted BMW generators are inspected once every three years. The incumbent inspects all BMW generators, transporters and storage facilities completing inspection forms and conducts re-inspections as necessary. Maintains files and records for each BMW facility and processes permit applications. Meets with BMW facility operator to recommend environmental control methods and review compliance plans. The incumbent is responsible for the computer entry of all completed BMW inspections.

The incumbent in this position is responsible for activities in the Body Piercing and the Practice of Tattooing programs as required by Chapter 381.0075, 381.00771-381.00791 Florida Statutes and Chapters 64E-19 and 64E-28, Florida Administrative Code (FAC). The incumbent issues permits, maintains and updates a list of those persons and establishments involved with these programs. The incumbent inspects all facilities annually. Maintains files and records for each facility and processes permit applications. Meets with facility operators to recommend environmental control methods and review compliance plans. Investigates complaints and violations, both on and offsite, coordinating with all necessary agencies. The incumbent is responsible for the computer entry of all completed inspections. Required to become standardized in infection control to perform body piercing inspections without nursing staff.

Develops and provides professional education sessions to medical health care personnel, medical support organizational personnel and body piercing performers for compliance with Chapter 64E-16 and Chapter 64E-19.

Investigates biomedical waste, body piercing, and tattooing complaints. Works sanitary nuisance complaints both on and off site, coordinating with all necessary agencies.

Performs other Environmental Public Health activities as directed by higher level supervisors.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must be able to deal with clients in a pleasant yet firm manner.
• Must be able to use the Enivornmental Health Database to enter data and inspections as well as run productivity reports.
• Must have an excellent knowledge of all applicable codes:

• Must be willing to use their own vehicle to drive to inspections should the need arise.
• Must be familiar with computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access,
• Must be able to utilize a windows based computer to perform data entry of inspections and complaints into the EHD system.
• Must represent the MCHD in a professional manner.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM-

High School Diploma or GED

Willing to work outside in the elements

Valid Florida Drivers License

Lift a minimum of 30lbs

PREFERRED-

BS in physical science

Experience with the Environmental Health Database

Experience with Biomedical Waste, Tattooing, Body Piercing

Experience working in a regulatory setting
