Summary
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and infection control standards throughout the healthcare facility. This role supports patient care by ensuring all assigned areas remain safe, sanitary, and properly maintained. Responsibilities include cleaning patient care areas, handling linen distribution, maintaining equipment, and following all safety and infection prevention protocols.
Essential Functions
- Clean patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, laboratories, offices, waiting areas, and public restrooms
- Launder hospital linens and maintain linen inventory when assigned
- Disinfect surfaces, clean equipment, vacuum carpets, polish floors, and restock supplies
- Make beds, remove trash, and maintain cleanliness throughout assigned areas
- Collect and distribute hospital linens and patient gowns
- Inspect equipment daily and report maintenance or repair needs
- Follow infection control and workplace safety standards at all times
- Properly use cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Assist in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and reliability
- Ability to follow infection control and safety procedures
Preferred Experience
- Hospital, healthcare, hotel, or janitorial cleaning experience preferred
- Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience a plus
- Valid West Virginia Driver’s License perfered
Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques. Employees must be able to tolerate personal protective equipment including gloves, masks, respirators, safety glasses, and other required safety gear.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a healthcare setting with exposure to cleaning chemicals, infectious materials, and frequent physical activity. Employees may occasionally attend in-service trainings regarding infection prevention, equipment use, safety procedures, and organizational updates.
