Job Description

Shift: Full Time: 11am- 7:30pm working every other weekend

Position Purpose:

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned Environmental Services duties for which the employee has been trained or is qualified to perform, following KHI policies, department procedures, infection prevention standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and sanitizes assigned patient rooms, bathrooms, clinical areas, public areas, work areas, equipment, and high-touch surfaces using approved products and procedures.
  • Resets assigned areas after cleaning to support a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff, and other customers.
  • Follows standard precautions, transmission-based precautions when applicable, and proper hand hygiene practices to help reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures when handling waste, soiled linen, chemicals, equipment, blood, body fluids, or other potentially infectious materials.
  • Uses cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and laundry-related products safely and according to manufacturer instructions, safety data sheets, KHI policies, and department procedures.
  • Monitors assigned areas for cleanliness, safety concerns, supply needs, damaged surfaces, equipment issues, spills, or other environmental risks, and report concerns to the supervisor or appropriate leader.
  • Complete required documentation, logs, delivery records, cleaning records, or other assigned records accurately and timely.
  • Participates in department meetings, training, competency reviews, and process improvement efforts, and adapt to changes in workload, assignments, priorities, or patient care needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of department and organization.

Performs as Assigned:

  • Collects, removes, and disposes of trash, soiled materials, medical waste, and biohazard waste according to federal, state, organizational, and departmental guidelines.
  • Operates and maintains assigned EVS equipment, laundry equipment, floor care equipment, carts, and related tools safely, appropriately, and efficiently.
  • Performs routine floor and wall care duties, including cleaning, disinfecting, maintaining, and restoring assigned surfaces, using approved procedures and equipment.
  • Maintains an adequate stock and flow of clean linen, laundry, and related supplies throughout assigned areas to support patient care and department operations.
  • Handles, stores, transports (if designated), and delivers clean and soiled linen in a manner that helps prevent contamination, cross-contamination, and exposure to infectious materials.
  • Maintains laundry areas, linen storage areas, supply closets, carts, and equipment in a clean, sanitary, organized, and safe condition.

Special Position Requirements

Exposure Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, soiled linen, contaminated surfaces, cleaning chemicals (to include formaldehyde), disinfectants, chemotherapy-related exposure risks, and other potentially infectious materials.

Work Requirements

Constant physical effort may be required during the shift, including:

  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, and lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Operation of commercial cleaning, laundry, and floor care equipment.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally pulling or pushing carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Climbing of approved safety ladders for high cleaning, curtain changes, or similarly assigned duties.
  • This position may require travel to other KHI campuses and medical buildings.
