Job Description

General Statement of Duties

The Environmental Services Float provides flexible support across housekeeping and laundry areas based on daily operational needs. This position assists with maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors while supporting consistent department coverage.

The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, detail-oriented, and comfortable stepping into different responsibilities as needed. This role may perform laundry, housekeeping, cleaning, and other environmental services duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

  • Float between Housekeeping and Laundry to provide coverage and support based on daily department needs.
  • Perform assigned laundry duties, including collecting, sorting, washing, drying, treating, folding, hanging, and distributing resident clothing and linens.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of clean linens and laundry items in designated areas.
  • Assist with pressing/ironing and special stain treatment as needed.
  • Perform assigned housekeeping and cleaning duties to maintain a clean, orderly, and sanitary community.
  • Clean and disinfect floors, walls, ceilings, equipment, and work areas using approved procedures and products.
  • Maintain laundry and housekeeping areas free of spills, clutter, hazards, and unnecessary equipment or supplies.
  • Safely operate laundry and environmental services equipment and report malfunctions, defects, or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Properly use, store, and handle cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and other supplies.
  • Follow infection control, hand hygiene, PPE, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain resident privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Complete required daily documentation and work assignments accurately.
  • Assist with special or emergency needs, including distribution of clean linens and supplies.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, positive attitude, and respectful communication with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Previous experience in long-term care, senior living, healthcare, housekeeping, laundry, or an institutional setting preferred.
  • Training will be provided for department-specific procedures as needed.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage changing daily assignments.
  • Knowledge of basic laundry, housekeeping, cleaning, and sanitation practices preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and handle cleaning products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Commitment to resident dignity, privacy, safety, and quality of service.
  • Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist wherever needed.

Work Schedule and Availability

  • Part-time, in-person position.
  • Availability to work weekdays, weekends, and occasional holidays as needed.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry laundry, linens, supplies, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including warm laundry areas.
  • Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and operate department equipment.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
