Associate Environmental 1 — St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position:

In accordance with established policies and procedures, performs preventative cleaning procedures necessary to maintain the facility in an orderly, sanitary and attractive condition. Responsible for the safe pick up and transport of all infectious, solid and recyclable waste from holding areas to the incinerator, compactor or storage areas. Transports clean and soiled linen.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Safely transports hazardous, solid, and recyclable waste from points of origin to designated holding areas in accordance with safety and compliance standards.
  • Performs preventative, discharge, and occupied room cleaning using established interactive procedures, including disinfecting surfaces and preparing beds, cribs, and isolation rooms.
  • Provides specialized cleaning services in critical care areas (OR, ED, NICU, Labor & Delivery), including isolation, between-case, terminal, cycle cleaning, and delicate equipment sanitation.
  • Maintains cleanliness of restrooms, elevators, stairwells, lobbies, and other support areas, including hard floor and carpet care following established burnishing procedures.
  • Delivers clean linen to designated areas and transport soiled linen safely to holding areas and dock locations.
  • Operates and maintain mop wringers and floor care equipment to support environmental services operations.
  • Performs other duties; relocates furniture and equipment, cleans and maintains wheelchairs and medical equipment, responds to emergencies such as floods, reports safety or maintenance concerns, and assists with occasional patient transport as needed.

Licensing/Certification

Basic Life Support (required - upon hire or obtained within the department orientation period)

Education

High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
