At ChristianaCare, our Environmental Services team plays a vital role in supporting patient safety, infection prevention, and exceptional patient care. As an Environmental Services Associate, you will help create and maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and caregivers. Your work directly contributes to reducing healthcare-associated infections, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing the overall patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, isolation rooms, clinical areas, procedural spaces, and high-touch surfaces according to infection prevention and healthcare cleaning standards.
  • Utilize hospital-approved cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, dilution systems, and personal protective equipment (PPE) safely and effectively.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, visitors, caregivers, physicians, and team members.
  • Identify and report environmental, safety, infection prevention, or maintenance concerns.
  • Support initiatives focused on patient safety, infection prevention, hand hygiene compliance, and patient experience.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment, carts, tools, closets, and supplies in a clean, organized, and operational condition.
  • Collect, transport, and dispose of trash, regulated waste, recyclable materials, and other waste streams according to established procedures.
  • Respond promptly to work assignments, service requests, and department communications using mobile technology and communication platforms.
  • Participate in required training, education, and competency development programs.
  • Safely transport bulk waste and materials to designated collection areas.
  • Follow all department safety procedures and report hazards or unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform physical duties throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic proficiency using smartphones, mobile devices, and workplace technology.
  • Commitment to safety, infection prevention, confidentiality, and teamwork.

Preferred Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Work Environment

  • Frequent interaction with patients, visitors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Exposure to healthcare environments where infectious diseases may be present; required safety precautions and PPE will be provided.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday.

This position has a starting rate of $17.80 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.90 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.93 per hour.

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
