Job Description

ChristianaCare is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services Associate to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for our patients, caregivers, and visitors. This role is essential to supporting infection prevention, patient satisfaction, and the overall appearance of our facilities.

The ideal candidate will take pride in creating a welcoming healthcare environment, demonstrate excellent customer service, and consistently follow established safety and infection control standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize patient rooms, offices, common areas, and ancillary hospital spaces.
  • Maintain carts and equipment in a clean, organized, and safe condition. Ensure carts and equipment are never left unattended.
  • Remove empty boxes and maintain clutter-free work areas, closets, and storage spaces.
  • Restock paper products, soap, and other supplies throughout assigned areas.
  • Clean and disinfect isolation and precaution rooms in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Collect and transport trash and soiled linen from assigned areas.
  • Remove bulk waste and transport trash to designated compactor locations.
  • Maintain clean and organized Environmental Services closets throughout the facility.
  • Respond promptly to Environmental Services calls, texts, and work assignments using department-issued smart devices.
  • Attend required department meetings, in-service training, and educational programs.
  • Report maintenance concerns, damaged equipment, hazards, and safety issues to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Promote a professional, helpful, and service-oriented attitude when interacting with patients, visitors, and fellow caregivers.
  • Follow all departmental safety policies, procedures, and infection prevention guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Skills & Experience

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, especially regarding patient information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping, sanitation, and infection prevention practices preferred.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, mobile applications, and electronic communication tools for work assignments.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and high standards of personal hygiene.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials as needed.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties throughout the entire shift.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent interaction with patients, visitors, and caregivers.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases when proper precautions are not followed.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn as required.
  • Safety glasses are required at all times while performing assigned duties.

This position has a starting rate of $17.80 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.90 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.93 per hour.

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
