Summary

As an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector for the Department of Environmental Protection, you will help guide projects that shape and protect the environment. These positions allow you to work outdoors, evaluate construction activities, and help ensure environmental protection. Examples of duties

This position focuses on inspecting construction and environmental reclamation projects to ensure they meet plans, permits, and safety requirements. It supports public safety, environmental protection, and the success of major field operations. As an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

• Site Inspections: Perform inspections of construction and reclamation projects to confirm compliance with permits, plans, and specifications
• Material Decisions: Accept or reject materials and workmanship based on contract and permit standards
• Erosion Control: Inspect erosion and sedimentation devices and ensure corrective actions are taken when needed
• Safety Oversight: Report unsafe conditions and require work to stop until hazards are corrected
• Survey Work: Check elevations, grades, and layouts using basic surveying tools and techniques
• Documentation Tasks: Maintain detailed daily records and prepare required reports and estimates

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This is a field position that will cover project sites in the following Western PA counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland. You will be expected to report to the Cambria District Office on an as needed basis.
• Telework: You will not report to an in-office location on a regular basis. Instead, you will work from home (telework) when you are not traveling to project sites. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects such as dams, flood control projects, mine reclamation projects, treatment plants, hazardous waste projects, airports, highways or utility installations; or
• An Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
