We're looking for an Environmental Pollution Technician to join our Water Recycling team, helping to protect and enhance the environment across our region. This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll work outdoors, respond to environmental incidents, support investigations and play a key part in reducing pollution and protecting local watercourses.

At Anglian Water, we invest in our people. As a valued employee, you'll benefit from:

  • Private healthcare
  • Generous double-match pension scheme – contribute 7% and we'll contribute 14%, giving a total contribution of 21%
  • 24/7 Virtual GP service for you and your household
  • 25 days annual leave, rising with service, plus the option to buy additional leave
  • Life assurance of up to 8x salary
  • Personal accident cover of up to 5x salary
  • Excellent family-friendly policies, including:
  • 26 weeks' full pay for maternity/adoption leave

  • Shared parental pay opportunities
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Flexible benefits and a supportive working culture designed to promote wellbeing and work-life balance.

About the role

As an Environmental Pollution Technician, you'll be one of the first responders to pollution and environmental incidents, supporting operational teams to understand the cause and impact of discharges on the environment. You'll collect samples, gather evidence, assess environmental impacts and deploy mitigation measures to help minimise environmental harm and restore affected areas.

When you're not attending incidents, you'll support our Dynamic Sewer Visualisation (DSV) programme by installing and maintaining monitoring equipment that helps identify issues before they become environmental problems. You'll also ensure pollution response equipment is maintained, stocked and ready for action, whilst supporting wider environmental improvement initiatives across the business.

What will you be doing?

  • Responding to pollution and environmental incidents across the region.
  • Collecting environmental samples, photographs and site evidence.
  • Assessing environmental impacts and supporting mitigation activity.
  • Helping operational teams identify root causes and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Installing, maintaining and recovering environmental monitoring equipment.
  • Maintaining pollution response equipment and consumables.
  • Collaborating with operational teams, scientists and environmental specialists.
  • Promoting a proactive, zero-pollutions mindset across the business.

What does it take to be successful?

You'll enjoy working outdoors, be comfortable working independently and have a genuine passion for protecting the environment.

You'll also have:

  • A full UK manual driving licence.
  • Availability to participate in a standby rota and out-of-hours working.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping abilities.
  • A proactive, adaptable and resilient approach to work.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Confidence using digital systems and technology.
  • The ability to work safely in a variety of environments and weather conditions.

Experience within the environmental or water industry would be beneficial but is not essential. We're equally interested in people with the right attitude, curiosity and willingness to learn.
