The EHS Specialist supports the implementation and execution of environmental, health, and safety programs. This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and Facilities to ensure regulatory compliance, hazard identification, and effective risk mitigation in a 24/7 cleanroom manufacturing environment.
The EHS Advisor plays a hands-on role in monitoring compliance, conducting field assessments, supporting chemical safety programs, and driving day-to-day safety engagements across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
Site EHS Support
- Support the implementation of site EHS programs under the direction of the EHS Manager.
- Serve as a visible safety presence in manufacturing and facilities areas, reinforcing expectations and safe work practices.
- Partner with supervisors and engineers to identify hazards and implement practical risk reduction measures.
- Support site leadership in promoting a strong safety culture across all shifts.
Environmental Compliance
- Support safe management of high-hazard chemicals, including acids, solvents, toxic gases, pyrophoric materials, and specialty semiconductor chemicals.
- Conduct routine inspections of gas storage areas, chemical storage areas, waste accumulation areas, and abatement systems.
- Partner with Facilities and Engineering during tool installations, process changes, and system modifications to ensure EHS requirements are addressed.
- Assist with chemical risk assessments and management of change reviews.
Occupational Health & Safety
- Conduct routine safety inspections and job hazard assessments across office, facilities, cleanroom and support areas.
- Support OSHA compliance programs including industrial hygiene monitoring, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, ergonomics, confined space, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety.
- Assist with contractor safety oversight, including monitoring high-risk work activities.
- Participate in incident investigations and support root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
- Maintain accurate records of training, inspections, and corrective actions.
Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity
- Support site emergency response planning and drills, including chemical release scenarios and fire response.
- Participate as a member of the site emergency response team, as required.
- Assist in maintaining emergency equipment readiness and documentation.
EHS Management System & Continuous Improvement
- Support implementation and maintenance of the site EHS Management System aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Assist with internal audits, documentation control, and corrective action tracking.
- Help develop and track leading and lagging indicators.
- Use data and field observations to recommend improvements to reduce risk and strengthen compliance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field required.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in EHS within manufacturing, semiconductor, advanced electronics, chemical manufacturing, or similarly regulated environments; Experience working in high-hazard chemical or cleanroom environments preferred.
- Certifications (preferred):
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional)
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
- CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist)
- CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager)
- Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and EPA environmental requirements.
- Familiarity with North Carolina environmental regulations is preferred.
- Basic understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and chemical distribution systems.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems and audit practices preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong field presence and ability to influence safe behaviors at the operational level.
- Clear communicator who can explain safety expectations in practical terms.
- Strong observation and hazard recognition skills.
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and EHS management systems.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $80,000 – $110,000USD.
Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
