Are you ready to make a difference in environmental quality and emergency response? Join our team as an Environmental Health Manager II, where you’ll support South Carolina’s statewide oil and hazardous material response program. This position operates within the Bureau of Regional & Laboratory Services and the Division of Emergency Environmental Response, where teams respond to chemical spills, support emergency operations, and provide technical expertise across the state.
Working under limited supervision, you’ll help develop and administer the statewide oil and hazardous material response program. Your work will include creating plans and procedures for environmental field and laboratory detection methods, maintaining air-monitoring and detection equipment, and responding to environmental incidents as a Duty Officer, Response Leader, or emergency worker. You will also coordinate the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) program, deliver training to response staff, and participate in environmental and radiological preparedness exercises. In this role, you’ll evaluate complex field situations, make independent decisions during emergency events, and provide technical assistance to the public, officials, and regulated industries. Your efforts will strengthen SCDES’s readiness and ability to respond to environmental emergencies across South Carolina.
