Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the EHS Manager will supervise and direct daily EHS functions for Kawneer Company Canada Ltd. (an Arconic company), in Lethbridge, AB. The incumbent will be accountable for ensuring the Environmental, Health, and Safety activities reduce risk, eliminate incidents, and are performed within external regulatory requirements and internal management guidelines. The EHS Manager plays an integral role in ensuring the health and safety of all managers, employees, and contractors on site at the Lethbridge facility. In this role, you will:

  • This position is responsible for the safety and health programs at the Lethbridge, Alberta location;
  • Develop and execute strategic and tactical Health and Safety plans to drive fatality prevention, increase risk recognition, and reduce injuries/incidents through human performance improvements;
  • Ensuring the Health and Safety activities reduce risk, eliminate incidents, and are performed within external regulatory requirements and internal management guidelines;
  • Develop, implement, and document Health and Safety programs in accordance with local, Provincial, Federal and Alberta Occupational Health & Safety requirements; and in compliance with all Arconic and Kawneer policies and management systems;
  • Accurate submission and completion of all Lethbridge incident reporting to Kawneer and Arconic within designated deadlines and reporting process guidelines;
  • Prepare and submit all Kawneer and Arconic required monthly and quarterly performance index reports and metrics;
  • Approval of EHS-related procurement activities including Waste Characterization and Disposal, PPE, I/H, Noise Testing, Training Resources, and any other Environmental, Health, and Safety vendors as required;
  • Oversee and supervise accredited training needed in areas related to H&S for training, report submittal, and general awareness;
  • Liaison for Kawneer, Arconic, regulatory agencies, and outside vendors in the area of Environment, Health and Safety;
  • Ensure environmental permit conditions are understood, implemented and enforced;
  • Ensure leaders and department employees attend all required training;
  • Work with senior leadership and provide strategic oversight of EHS;
  • Lead, mentor, and support the location’s EHS Coordinator;
  • Ensure management is informed of current EHS issues;
  • Other duties as assigned.

You have: (required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or Environmental Engineering preferred. However, other relevant Bachelor’s Degrees may also be considered;
  • 5 years professional experience in Health & Safety in a manufacturing environment;
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada;
  • A designation in health and safety is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, analytical, and human relations skills;
  • Organizational/time management skills;
  • Problem solve to “Root Cause”;
  • Excellent Microsoft skills (Excel, Access, PowerPoint);
  • Supervision and experience within a manufacturing environment is a plus;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Self-Starter with the eagerness to seek opportunities and stretch capabilities

Certificates & Licenses: Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP) required.

Work Environment/Conditions: Standard Monday to Friday business hours. This is an exempt position which does require occasional overtime work as required. Manual dexterity required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
